Do You Churn? WoW Players Do.

For anyone interested in the business side of gaming, there’s an explanation of churning here for you to read.

Switch

Churning is basically the process of a player moving from one game to the next, a process that happens in a game like World of Warcraft every ten months. The idea is that players will sign on to a game service, and that game service can expect their business for two months short of a calendar year before they move on to something else. In the article, the President of NC-Soft asks, “How can we make churning our friend?”

The guys over at Penny Arcade turned me on to the article after talking about their disappointment, but utter realism, about the idea of the Starcraft MMO. Anyone else out there a little disappointed that we’re not going to see another Real Time Strategy Blizzard game?

I completely agree. Blizzard found a hit and it’s switching completely over to it. It sucks, what about diablo, starcraft, or the warcraft rts?
Diablo went over famously! same goes with starcraft (esp. Korea) and Wow owes much of it’s initial fanbase to fans of the WCrts.
