disney to triple gaming budgetOur wonderful overlords at Disney are taking the next step in world domination and plan to triple the amount of money it spends on video game development. Disney, known to have it’s hand in every media cookie jar (Touchstone, Miramax, ABC, E!, ESPN), plans on spending millions more than the paltry $100 million it spent last year. According to an article from Reuters, CFO Tom Staggs says that Disney is “ramping up our investment in video games,” – this year $130 million was set aside, and over the next five years Staggs said the company wants to invest $350 million per year in video games, mainly consoles and handhelds. Market researchers forecast the gaming market will be worth $21.3 billion in 2009 – so with their $350 million investment each year, game and movie sales should provide Disney with enough money to finally buy the United States outright, and if needed they can always use China for collateral.
