calm down people….u know…i have directx 10 installed(cracked of corse) on a pentium4 2,66Gh with gforce4 grafix card,64/64, and my games do endeed run a bit better on xp…but wasn’t directX 10 supposed to run only on compatible systems? ..so just be patient and wait for dx11 to appear and then acuse microsoft for their way of making people buy new systems.and it looks like their “way” paid off preeeety god by now…cheers

Sigh… how much are we gonna need to spend on a PC to finally get it fully working with Windows7 64bit and DX11 and “great” graphics (because we were told that the previous generation was stunning , but it was in fact not quite yet as good as the better one coming soon…), oh and : you’re gonna need 16Gb or ram as well at least 3Gb for the OS to load, etc, blablabla …

And who has 100% demonstrated that DX10 was a “major” step forward compared to DX9?

Forget the next coming Tera-PC and just play your Wii or PS2 : it boots, it runs, you switch it off and you’re done = happy.

And by the way if you want a PC to work in your office : you don’t need a Blu-ray disk burner, 8-core plus quadSLI to run Word or Open-Office

I hate these idiots who just moan about windows and microsoft when 99% of them are actually running windows whilst saying this and 75% are using internet explorer too!

Microsoft have had the better start in desktop operating systems, they will always have the man power, money and knowledge to create the best systems. They are not crap, if you can’t afford to buy a better pc to play the latest games then tough shit get a job.

if you ask me i think microsoft should have never made vista in the first place they ruined it for gamers,

the only reason they made directx 10 exclusive to vista was so that they could push vista onto everyone as there new standard for an os,

ofcourse we all know it’s a pathetic excuse for an operating system, having to build an over the top gaming machine just to run games decent at smooth framerates just to make up for the os slowing down your machine is just downright stupid in my opinion

you know its only a matter of time before people start looking for other alternatives for there operating systems, like linux and apple,

microsoft equals bull$*@# period, you know what i think screw directx 10 and screw directx 11 they lost my respect a long time ago and there’s no way there gonna get it back, yeah it truly sucks to be microsoft

Slight misinterpretation there. DirectX is by design always backwards compatible with older hardware. You can run older hardware with DX10 installed, you just don’t magically get DX10 features enabled. The same thing was happening within DX9 years ago (Pixel Shader 3.0 anyone?).

I think what is easier to grasp is that “DX11 is -backwards OS- compatible”.
