deus ex Deus Ex Retrospective

Ion Storm and Warren Spector’s Deus Ex was a groundbreaking title that proved games with a solid story could also be packed with action that didn’t stop for the plot.

At the time, Deus Ex was bold and unprecedented. It is to living worlds what Doom is to shooters.

Gametap takes a look back on this highly influential game and the lasting effects it’s had on the video game industry. It is in many ways the paradigm that good RPG design should follow. It offers the illusion of player choice and allows players to determine their own playstyle within the confines of a scripted game and it does that very well.

Having played and enjoyed the original title, I’m really looking forward to seeing Deus Ex 3. Of course I’m hoping it will not only live up to, but surpass the original. Of course the graphics will be worlds superior, but can they combine that with the kind of immersive story that made the original so compelling?

Let’s hope they manage to make a game that’s like the original – not like the mess they made of the second game Invisible War!

    Can’t wait to see it!
