Sega has unveiled some of the details for their upcoming game, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. The new title, slated for the Wii and DS, will feature 20 authentic Olympic events and 16 characters to choose from — 8 from Mario’s camp, and 8 from Sonic’s camp. The characters will fit into four basic playing styles: all-around, technical, speed, and power. For example, Mario’s an all-around player, Peach and Tails are technical players, Sonic is a speedy player, and Knuckles and Bowser are power-heavy players. The Wii-mote will allow players to mimic the movements of their on-screen character from swinging a hammer throw to performing swimming strokes. Players will also be able to experiment with different movement to try and discover secret boosts, similar to the “hit-accelerate-at-the-second-light” boost in Mario Kart 64. In both single and multi-player modes, players will be able to play individual events in Single Match mode, or compete in a series of events in Circuit Mode, which are either pre-determined, picked at random, or chosen by you. There will also be a single-player Mission mode, offering different challenges for players to test their athletic abilities.
The game should be out for the Wii this November and on the DS early next year. Check out the full list of events after the jump.
