Dear Xbox Live Members, Thank You For Breaking Xbox Live.

Now, here’s a cookie…
As Chris hinted to here, Microsoft has made an official statement regarding compensation for Xbox Live’s wonkiness as of late:
- Dear Xbox LIVE Members:
During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.
As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.
At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.
Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!
Sincerely,
Marc Whitten
General Manager, Xbox LIVE
Nice. I’d rather have a cookie though.

The cookie is a lie!!!…..oh wait that’s cake…..my bad….
Sounds to me like they didn’t actually fix anything, just waited for traffic to settle down after the Holiday break so things would return to normal.
If they offer Bomberman Live, which I just got (admittedly because I got some free points with my purchase of Mass Effect) then I shall be *slightly* annoyed. However, sounds great.
@used cisco
Mass Influx Subscriptions = Live Down (if you believe MS)
Prepare to be onslaughted by Xbox 360 Holiday Sales figures and (as hinted) Xbox Live subscription numbers to boot.
Like any good console PR does these days, they are going to spin this into their advantage.
I’d rather have a free month of Xbox Live Gold, but apparantly it’s cheaper to hand pick some arcade games to give away for free.
In the coming weeks.
Just great. And I love how they say intermittent. It’s been anything but that up here near Montreal. Spin doctors. Hate them.
Oh, and my blades still wouldn’t load at all last night.
yes it is pretty broken as of latley. I think a free XBLA game and bringing things up to speed would be ok in my books. But ya playing COD4 and other games at times is near impossible at times. Fix it and i want a free game. Thank you Moneysoft. But most important -> Fix it.
I don’t think this is a good deal AT ALL.
I am a subscriber and I felt the hurting when I couldn’t play with my buddies online. Some BS game that you would normally ignore any other day of the week is as silly as offers get. How about you give us 800 points (the equivalent of most of the arcade games) so that at the very least you can either purchase or at least you’d be half way through a purchase for something you really want.
I have already bought all the XBLA games I want, some free game that I would normally not even wonder about does little to forget the fact that for a couple of days, I was not able to play with my buddies or download anything for that matter.
M$ doesn’t even offer a way to tell them what I am writing here.
This was the second time they’ve used XBLA as some kind of GREAT gift for their paying customers.
The first was with this “thank you” where you could only download from a choice of crappy games, and this is the second time.
I’d rather have the points or a month for free.
Im just waiting for the day that this house of cards comes down, like ENRON.
