dead space grappling Dead Space Latest Videogame to Feel Ban Hammer in China and Japan, Still on for Germany

It appears Destructoid’s announcement that Dead Space has been banned in Germany was premature. According to Videogaming247, Eurogamer.de has got word straight fro EA Germany that Dead Space is still in the USK. There is some question as to whether it will be released intact or will have restrictions applied.

According to the original Destructoid article, Dead Space had been outright banned in Germany as well as China and Japan.

We’ve also been told by Dead Space community manager Andrew Green that the title has been completely banned from the following countries: Germany, Japan, and China. That’s right, there’s just too much survival and way too much horror in Dead Space for these countries to handle. No word on whether EA has any plans to alter the game for a future release in those territories.

It’s too bad the ban in China and Japan seems to be legitimate at this point. Hopefully something can be worked out for gamers in those two territories. Dead Space will be out for the Xbox360 and PS3 October 14th and the PC October 20th in North America and Europe.

China and Germany I can understand because both have traditionally censored violence and porn in everything but Japan is a huge surprise.

Makes me wonder if maybe there is some kind of anti-American game hating going on here…..I’m just saying.

    Go Marlins!!!!

Keep in mind that this game mainly takes place on a ship called the Ishimura. There is also another thing that probably is going on under the surface in a more speculative sense, and it has to do with a little game called Resident Evil 5.

The newest RE is not made by the same people as the last one (as they now work with the folks who are making Bayonetta and Madworld). There is a high likelihood that, in a quality sense, the newest one will come out a dud. With that in mind, EA has next to no power compared to the almighty CAPCOM in Japan, and it’s altogether possible that, in their admittedly elitist, corporate, and semi-fascist society (do some research, folks), CAPCOM made a little deal.

Who knows? I do know that Japan is a totally different place from anywhere else in the world. Americans call their government isolationist, but with all due respect, we have no idea what isolationism really is.
