Dead Space Engine May Be Used for Other Games

By now, you’ve probably seen some gameplay footage from the upcoming horror title, Dead Space; so you already know the graphics look impressive. But could you imagine the same engine being used for other games? That’s exactly what EA may be thinking, according to Glen Schofield, the head of the development team. EA is already in the process of naming the engine and making it available for other games to use, like The Godfather 2. No word yet on whether the engine will only be used internally at EA or become available to outside developers as well. Regardless, Schofield hopes that future developers can make their own changes to the game engine down the line to keep it constantly improving, much like Unreal Engine 3.
Dead Space certainly does look impressive, so I could actually see future developers using this engine as a jumping off point for other games. Here’s hoping someone makes a game focused entirely around the zero gravity aspect of it, like in the video above.
