Dawn of Fantasy Trailer #2

Here’s a tip, game developers: do not make a game trailer where your company logo is more interesting and eye-catching than the actual game. Take this trailer for Dawn of Fantasy, for example. Already, I’d rather know more about how the words “Reverie Entertainment” came to be assembled by robots in some warehouse than I would about a fantasy-based MMO/RTS hybrid. Nevertheless, Dawn of Fantasy will allow players to create a stronghold from the ground up and try to invade other strongholds with a roaming army, all against a completely derivative fantasy backdrop. The whole video features a lengthy voice over that could probably be summed up into two lines: “You ever seen Lord of the Rings? It’s like that.” It’d be nice if they’d highlight something really, truly groundbreaking; because I’m having trouble picking that out in this sunnier recreation of The Battle of Helm’s Deep.

You obviously watched 30 seconds of this trailer and then deemed your verdict, if you visited their website or their forums, you would see that they are doing a lot of innovation in the RTS genre. It would make you look a lot more credible in your information if you actually took the time to research what you were writing about instead of just talking about it on the fly.

A fully featured MMORTS with no monthly fees, Dragons as a playable faction, persistent armies where all the units gain xp, RPG style combat where; unit level, weapon type, even elevation and lighting come into play. These are just some of the features DoF is bringing to the table. I seriously reccomend if you saw anything you like in the trailer to check out the game’s website: http://www.dawnoffantasy.com

Their company forums are filled with information about the game and the staff members actually respond to your questions and comments, letting you actually help make the game more to what you think it should be.

Wow- that was a pretty shallow article. I liked the video. Can’t say the same about author.

  4. TripleR says:

Also if you’d check out their website you’d notice that the video is actually from early stages of development and over three years old. I heard they are releasing a new gameplay video soon and I bet we can see some significant improvement on the technological side.

What comes to the gameplay features: DoF was pioneering when its MMORTS consept was first announced many years ago, and there still isn’t many games in development trying to do something similar. I don’t care what setting a good game is build on, be it the overused fantasy or any other, what matters is the innovativeness and functinality of the gameplay and looks like DoF is getting those right!

  5. Fyro11 says:

I totally agree with Liquid. Day/night will also affect the gameplay, as well as the units being able to swim, mount, run or climb.
