For some reason, I’m always interested in the different routes developers look at in the course of designing a game. In David Jaffe’s latest blog post, he discusses what goes into coming up with a game’s title: a topic brought up by an action figure line called simply “Police Vs. Bad Guyz.” Near the end of the post though, he reveals quite a few names that were considered for some of his most well known names. Twisted Metal could’ve been called the self-explanatory, “Cars and Rockets.” God of War was going to simply titled “?,” as in the Greek symbol for “omega” — which now has me convinced that Prince was on their marketing team. Even Kratos was originally going to be called “Dominus.” It’s like imagining some Bizarro universe where cats collect nuts and squirrels chase mice.
