In even more Halo 3 related news, initial sales for Master Chief’s latest incarnation are coming in, and the Xbox 360 exclusive title has sold through 1.8 million copies during the first 8 hours of release. The break down is 1.5 million sold through pre-orders, with an additional 300,000 copies sold without pre-order.Estimations predict that a total of 950,000 units will be sold within the first 24 hours, bringing the grand total to 2.45 million. Microsoft has released the game in three SKUs ranging in price from 59.99 to 129.99, and the average sale price of the title is currently at $78.00. This means that, Microsoft has already made an estimated 140.4 million dollars and is expected to cash-in on 191.1 million dollars before the end of the day. This would put Halo 3 at the top of the list for any form of entertainment’s top “one day sales”.
Bungie and Bill Gates will be rolling on a bed strewn with money laughing maniacally and kissing one another profusely before the week is finished. Can’t you feel the love?

Halo 3 is an excellent game. Its just like halo 2 except they fixed all the little problems making halo 3 close to perfect. It has all that you could want: Co-op, nice campaign, online play, and one on one multiplayer. What is wrong with halo 3? I cant find ANYTHING. 9.5/10
How is it 1 day of sales?
Pre-orders have been taken for weeks if not longer. Its like ordering something and not getting it shipped for 2 weeks.
1 day sales look like 950k units if they said that is what it would be in 24 hours making its 1 day sales number $74,100,000. I don’t know if that is record breaking.
pre-orders count because these are people who would have bought it on the first day anyway. its just smarter and easier, like not having to stand in line like those people who did not pre-order
So basically the same arguments are being used as in the first Xbox vs. PS2 debates. My friend and I looked forward to Xbox (original) 3 years before it came out. I was in elementary school then and began to save my money up for it. PS2 owners used the excuse that it had more games back then, and some of them were dumb enough to say it had better graphics. What all Playstation owners fail to realize is Sony’s lack of support (how many times has Gates donated them $ to stay alive? haha), and the fact that they’re LOSING GAMES. Rockstar ONLY made GTA for Playstation because they had to. They’ve been quoted saying they want graphic improvements for an xbox game… Game publishers will continue to drop Sony and pick up a MUCH MORE reliable Microsoft.
How many tourniments sprung up after Halo 1’s release? More than any of us could count. I have to say I used to be a HUGE Counter Strike player on PC – and it still comes in 2nd imo. But Halo 1, 2, and 3 has vehicle support, a storyline/campaign, co-op campaign, unbeatable multiplayer, amazing support staff via Bungie.net, database support, and Microsoft…
By the way, it wasn’t entirely Microsoft/Bungie that hyped up Halo 3 – have you failed to notice that it was the RETAIL STORES. They knew it was going to be huge – so everyone wanted to let the consumers know that THEY had it ready, “Come by Halo here” sorta thing. I saw a lot less commercials stemming from Microsoft/Bungie than I did for Halo 2 – what I saw was online adds for purchasing the game. Let Ps3 have their 50 dollar movies and 600 dollar movie player – I bought 360 (same day as halo 3) because I wanted a video game console.

On the PS3 you have Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy 13, Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Tekken 6, Uncharted, Haze, Infamous, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, LA Noir and Time Crisis 4 all exclusively on the PS3 not exclusive like the 360 ‘exclusives’ that are released on the PC as well and therefore not exclusive. If you bought the 360 to play games you bought the wrong console for 2008 (and probably every year after).
Secondly I find it interesting how you and your friend looked forward to the Xbox and saved up for it for 3 years before it came out when it was officially confirmed in 2000 and released the year later. Nice story but its bollocks (just like your story that you bought the 360 the day Halo3 was released)

Just Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear and Tekken have all sold more units individually than the biggest game franchise on the 360 (Halo). Those 4 games are all above Halo in the top 50 franchises of all time. Gran Turismo sells an average of 13m units per episode.
Hardly bollocks. It’s an incredible lineup.
BTW PC gamers (like myself) don’t need to use the 360 because most of its games are either on the PC already or soon will be.

Incidentally I do have some total sales figures for Final Fantasy games on the PlayStation consoles:
Final Fantasy VII 9.8m
Final Fantasy VIII 6m
Final Fantasy X 5m
Final Fantasy XII 3.7m
Final Fantasy X-2 3m
Which means the average sales of a Final Fantasy game on the PlayStation is 5.5m
BTW only 4 games have ever sold more than 2.5m on an Xbox console. 3 of those contain the word Halo in the title. The really should change it’s name to the Hbox

PS3 is not selling enough consoles. I expect more exclusive PS3 games to appear on 360. This is not the PS2 days anymore, where PS2 had a huge lead over Xbox1. right now PS3 is in last place and game companies are gonna want to make as much money as possible. especially since making a game for the PS3 cost so much more money and harder to program. Games like MGS4 and FF eventually will appear on 360
also, how about actually getting a killer app game before you start bragging.

At least Halo3 lived up to the hype. what happened to the much hyped PS3 games like warhawk and motorstorm? most review sites have them in the 80’s or 8/10. don’t get me wrong they are good games but not great like Halo3.
Gotta love them stats. I dono why people waste so much time trying to prove how good the PS3 is? it is a powerful system, Game developers do need more consoles sold to make more games a hit. of course it will take time to get up there, But Xbox 360’s Xbox live is worth it alone.
Im not gonna give stats or figures on what games sell or out soon etc…. All i know is that my Xbox 360 does more than meet the needs for fun and entertainment. I love Xbox live, All the great games now, not 6 months from now like the Delaystation 3. I am about the games, If Sony someday catches up i probaly will get a PS3, for now the games are delayed and i dont see a single game i must have now. Maby down the road if the 40GB model is out, Right now in my oppinion the PS3 dont do a thing for me.

First 12 months of xbox 360 it had 9 A games (9.0+ on IGN). PS3 has 4, and one of them just came out (Folklore, not saying its a bad game, just that it was at 3 untill very recently).And with that one of the 4 was already available on the 360, which is oblivion. Now for B games, 360 has 39 (counting VC), and ps3 has 24 (counting downloadable). Again, this is in the first 12 months. So unless PS3 comes out with 5 more A games, and 15 B games by nov 17th, xbox has done better then PS3.
The only reason the ps3 guys are here is because they have nothing to do with their ps3’s.
I was kind of on the fence with Halo3, I barely played Halo2 (mostly due to time restraints), but Im pretty happy with it, and Im happy that even though i didnt pre-order I was able to walk into a local retailer and pick up a copy on release day. Good job there on getting the sales channel filled.
I dont know how many 360’s are out there vs. how many Halo3s are sold but I hope it goes to show other companies, that a good quality game makes good money and inspires other companies to make more. Any single game that can get 50% penetration in a market would have to consider it a success, and something like Halo thats in the 80s or whatever (Im just guessing) would have to be nothing short of amazing.
As far as cartoonish graphics and gameplay, I think they did the right thing. PG / G rated movies often rank much higher than R simply because of the penetration. I dont mind my son playing Halo3 because it is so un-realistic unlike Gears of War, which I like, but the blood, guns,language make it too harsh for someone younger.

That “old game” is called Marathon but will not contain the Master Chief. You should look it up and read it/play it. Its a great story/game.

There’s no better overall console so there’s no point in arguing. They each have their advantages in different areas so there’s no point in comparing apples and oranges.
I’d buy a PS3 is they weren’t so expensive. The only gripe I’ve ever had with Sony equipment is the teensy little controller is too small for my hands. This is probably the initial reason I swayed towards the chunky Microsoft controller ergo began following the xbox troupe.
Halo 3 is a great game. It’s not the be all end all to be compared to every other game genre on every single platform. Involving yourself in such an argument is like chopping off your nose to spite your face.

I work in the video game industry for a retailer and i dont really see what support sony has in the future. Yeah you talk about exclusive games, but it comes down to consoles. If you make an “A” game on a console that has only sold a few units, you will only sell that many of the game. Yeah it will increase console sales, but that is a waiting game developers dont like to play. That is why a lot of exclusive sony games arent exclusive anymore. Also, if what we are hearing is true, a lot of the exclusive games you named for next year wont be exclusive. Their third party support is down, their sales are down. Even my boss, a staunch sony fan, thinks the future will be bleak. developers cant afford to make ps3 games.

I mean how long can you talk about what is going to come out on there console and in the mean time just sit there and look at it. , yeah I sit here playing Eye Of Judgment, Warhawk(addictive), Heavenly Sword(hard mode), Resistance(very addictive online multi-player, and it had the same scores as Halo 3 back then!) I still play Rainbow Six and Motorstorm sometimes,(not counting the ones I don’t play that much) I want to get Ratchet & Clank and Guitar Hero III but I have other games in mind first like Call Of Duty 4, Haze, and Uncharted:Drake’s Fortune this month, others to follow in December. and yeah..shiny is sexy! “Black Beauty’ my wife calls the PS3. well my console is also a Blu-Ray player (you would love to say this too, believe me) and my wife and I love watching movies and it does look better than the regular DVDs, we just got “Spiderman The Trilogy” and “The Hills Have Eyes 2 Unrated” on Blu-Ray last Saturday, We wouldn’t buy them if We could not afford them but we can, and like I said before, we love movies! and it’s not that I “NEEEEEEEEEEEED THE HARDLY NOTICABLE GRAPHICAL UPDATE THAT THE PS3 HAS FOR HUNDREDS OF DALLORS MORE”. I WANT IT !!!!!! and I get what I want as long as I can afford it!
