In even more Halo 3 related news, initial sales for Master Chief’s latest incarnation are coming in, and the Xbox 360 exclusive title has sold through 1.8 million copies during the first 8 hours of release. The break down is 1.5 million sold through pre-orders, with an additional 300,000 copies sold without pre-order.Estimations predict that a total of 950,000 units will be sold within the first 24 hours, bringing the grand total to 2.45 million. Microsoft has released the game in three SKUs ranging in price from 59.99 to 129.99, and the average sale price of the title is currently at $78.00. This means that, Microsoft has already made an estimated 140.4 million dollars and is expected to cash-in on 191.1 million dollars before the end of the day. This would put Halo 3 at the top of the list for any form of entertainment’s top “one day sales”.
Bungie and Bill Gates will be rolling on a bed strewn with money laughing maniacally and kissing one another profusely before the week is finished. Can’t you feel the love?

There will be another $75 added to that soon. I have to get my copy. Many stores around town were open at midnight. For many this midnight madness is like santa claus for adults. They get excited to get this game early and anticipate the excitment of it. Theres not alot of things that can bring this excitment to an adult.
So i can understand the excitment for people wanting to get this early. Myself i pre-orderd at Bestbuy and the managment being lame didnt have a midnight sale. Howerver EBgames and Futureshop did. Today after work i hope to purchase and be playing this wonderful game.

Well Wal-Mart had copies and we got there about 11:30 and by 12:15 we were on our way home to play the game. It seems like an awsome ending to an awsome game. The new Gravity hammer is cool and the Graphics can’t be beat. There are several new items and different types of weapons. You can even ripe of the turrets and walk around with them. I think this is the best product Microsoft has ever put their name on. Bungie has set the bar high for all the Next Generation 360 games. Last night before we got online 11K people were playing. This morning. 86K players online. HALO 3 ROCKS
Halo 3 is overrated and not worth the BS hype… its fun, but not the “game of the year”.. though it might be rated “game of the year” that is only because of the hype…. it is only a sad ported halo 2 with slightly better graphics. unreal tournament might not sell as well, but it will be a much better game. see halo is for the masses, the casual FPS player, not the die hard FPS player.
Ported Halo 2? That doesn’t even make any sense.
The only things they’ve kept are the style and the content, most of which they’ve either tweaked or added to. Besides, for most people, it’s the story that is selling this game.
This is one of the best games ever and it lives up to the hype. I myself am a huge fan of Unreal Tournament, but Halo has been a game I can share with my friends. It’s not just me on my PC playing by myself. I can’t expect my friends to buy PC’s to play 1 game. With Halo it has always been different. In a way its a party game. It’s just you and your friends hanging out playing some Halo. It’s not some lame gaming experience where its just you. And guess what if you like it just being you, you can do that too!
Anyway, Unreal Tournament is just a multiplayer. Halo3 has a campaign mode(with a story) too, which has a 4 player online co-op. Once you are done with that you can go online with your friends and own each other or other people.
So does Halo3 deserve the success and the hype? Hell yeah it does. It’s fun as hell, that’s the point of games, to have fun. Don’t get me wrong with no doubt Unreal Tournament 3 will be fun, but like hell I’m going to play it on a console. Halo3 brings the FPS experience to the console like no other game. You can’t say Bioshock(I love that game) and Metroid Prime 3 brings it cuz they lack a multiplayer, which gives it a lower replay value than Halo3. The only possible competitor is Killzone which sucked. Gears of War kept my 360 busy till now, but even then you can’t compare the multiplayers, plus Gears of War is 3rd person.
I honestly don’t care if people think its an updated Halo2. Without a doubt the graphics look alot better. The maps are bigger and/or better and the new weapons and weapons balance adds an improvement to an already amazing game. The new vehicles only add depth to the combat giving you more options to work with.
Basically Halo3 pwns! BTW the reason this post is so long its cuz I’m in class and I’m bored and I can’t wait to get home to play Halo3 =D
Plus its gotten to the point where playing Halo isn’t lame. If I’m at home and I tell my girlfriend I’m playing Rainbow Six, she’ll be like thats lame. While if I tell her I’m playing Halo, its ok! It’s not just me too. Its like this game has been embraced by pop culture. It’s become cool to play Halo.
Point being buy the game so Bill Gates can get richer, then he can donate the money to charity later on.
I absolutly agree with Joelteon7 on this one. Although Microsoft did go a bit overboard with the marketing stragedy, they pulled out the stops making this game. I’ve been a fan since Halo, andhad even stopped playing Halo 2 online just because after a while, every game will get tired… but Halo 3 is nothing short of amazing , and a far cry from just another Halo 2. Aside from the storyline itself, and the general concept… thiss games contents far-surpasss its predecessors…

agreed perpy12. its a normal fps and a solid fun game. the one thing that i give halo props for is co-op play, used to be the one thing that every game had back in the glory days of SNES now hardly anything has it at all, co-op play imo is a lot more fun than only having death match style multi-player.

Digunderground, point me to rock solid proof that the Halo 3 is a port of Halo 2 and show me how the graphics are only slightly better. The graphics are much better. If the game is not fun for you, I DON’T CARE! It is very fun for other people and that gives you no freaking right to take wise cracks at us!

This game looks gorgeous in 1080p. Best multiplayer experience ever. Familiar layout, new weapons and tactics. Three freakin’ cheers for Bungie.
All the people who hate halo 3 are PS3 owners who are all butt hurt because they have no action adventure game to look forward to except maybe GTA which quite frankly is running out of steam and doesnt make a fun game to entertain oneself or one’s guests.
I don’t own a PS3, WII, or 360. All I know is after watching my friend play halo 3 I know exactly what my next paycheck is going towards. And Oblivion is awsome too

I just don’t understand why PS3 owners bother posting on 360 news sections with their negative rubbish, do they think its going to put people off buying 360s or these great AAA titles which the 360 has constantly coming out and the PS3 has NOT?.
You chose your PS3 it was your choice so go moan at the makers or something its dropped 40% sales in the USA since last week and Heavenly sword the so called big game could only manage to sell 70,000 copies in the first week in the USA for a so called AAA release it has flopped terribly as did Lair so what next oh another year to wait for stale old games like MGS4 and Final Fantasy 5,000 (or whatever number its on now since its PS1 release) and what if MGS4 doesent live up up its hype(and you are going to have to buy new Dual shock PS3 controllers to play it properly) what then? (I found MGS pretty boring anyway)……………Still if it is good I suppose we could all go post and say how bad it is etc etc then again the 360 has all the good games so you should be allowed the odd One or Two on your PS3….. Anyway Im off to play Halo 3 on my Super cool and super priced Xbox 360 ELITE…..
Oh and JOHN you want to mention failure rate ?, you forget Two things the PS2 which is still in production had the DVD drive of death failure rate and 5 million were replaced but it still won the console war, and secondly MS have given EVERYONE a 3 year guarantee (Not just One year like Sony) so go try somewhere else cos no one cares about your jealousy here….
i have always been a risk taker when it comes to buying consoles, and anyone who bought the original xbox definately took a risk.But after playing the original halo i have never looked back.Now thats the attachment rate that people are talking about.
Ps3 owners talk about the unreliability of the 360.Well mine was the 1st batch and its still running thus unfortunately some people havent been so lucky.But on my ps1 the console crashed and i had to replace it 3 times and each subsequent machine after 4 months stopped loading properly unless it was tilted side ways.yet it was the best selling.
You all should grow up and look at life in general and other consumer electronics and you will find out that usually the leaders in most sectors are not necessarily the most reliable but what makes them the best is the excellent ownership experience.And the is no denying the fact that the ownership experience gotten from owning a 360 is incredible and you have to admire a company that owns up to its mistakes and puts all its resources in fixing the problem inorder to make the consumer happy.
I like my 360 but if you sad ps3 cant leave with the decisions you made then go to sony and complian about it to them.Instead of trying to affect people with your bad taste and misguided coments.Sony have lost the plot this time around and until they discover the drive they had in the 90s i am not going back.HALO,BIOSHOCK,PROJECT GOTHAM,GEARS OF WAR,FORZA,MASS EFFECT to name a few are just to good for me to look else were.
And as for nintendo.I love the wii but if good games that cater for more serious gamers dont start dropping soon their massive sales will surely decline.
Halo 3 is a fine game indeed.
If you must reply please make it coherent.
PRO: It has a story, not the most original or complex plot but it has one nonetheless and is suitably palatable by the audience the game appeals to.
CON: The characters (particularly the enemies) still look like extras from a Disney cartoon.
PRO: It is intuitive to play yet demands mastery.
CON: There is nothing revolutionary about the game engine. It feels very similar to it’s previous incarnations which is not -entirely- a bad thing as they’re obviously building on previous success, but implementing new play systems (for example the same way the cover system was revolutionary ala GoW or R6 Vegas) would’ve added some spice and given H3 more kudos.
PRO: The weapons are varied and interesting.
CON: The graphics are much better than the previous titles but they’re still not on par with other 360 games. While graphics aren’t everything Microsoft sure put in the hardware to deal out whiz-bang graphics so it seems a waste that their flagship game doesn’t use it to the fullest. COD4 looks to address this…
PRO: Vehicles!
PRO: The soundtrack is another superb pseudo-classical symphony.
PRO: I count more PRO’s than CON’s which makes HALO 3 worth owning.

Personally, I’m not that excited about Halo 3. That’s not all that surprising, since I’ve never been a fan of the series. I’m not going to take a shot at 360 owners (I have one) or PS3 owners (got that too). I will however say this: If not for the XBox 360, there would be no Halo 3.
The reason that so many die hard FPS players from PC aren’t into Halo is that it’s a dated FPS. Is it great on the 360? Absolutely. I hate to admit it, but MS actually made a good call by not putting the game on PC at the same time as 360. On PC, Halo is a mediocre, tired, dated shooter. There are just so many other shooters out there on PC that are prettier, have better gameplay, and can easily match the multiplayer experience. This is not the case on the 360.
Not only this, but the so-called ‘cross-platform’ multiplayer is non-existent, mostly because PC gamers won’t pay for the “privilege” of playing against console gamers.
Again, Halo 3 is not a bad game for what it is. Just don’t make it out to be more than it is.
All I can say is “WOW!” This is the best video game I have ever played on any platform. I own the PS3 and the 360 and have to say the 360 is the one to have. I am very disappointed with Sony’s lack luster attempt at next generation gaming. They drooped the ball this time. I plan on selling my PS3 on ebay because I never play it. Buy a 360! Buy HALO 3! dont waste your money on a PS3.
The graphics may not have the gritty and knock out beauty of Gears of War, but Halo 3 is still among the sharpest games I’ve seen. The high-res textures, extreme particle effects, and use of both HDR and subtle light refections off metal, armor, and water make this game shine in a subtle way. I must say I am very impressed with the graphics.
Wow this game didnt set any sales record … maybe for 360. but not for pc. And to prove it i did look this up. World of warcraft BC which came out this year sold 5million copies first day at a price of 69.99$ or 129$ for the boxset. I really dont feel like do that math but i know it kills the sales. And yes i playd halo3 personaly i think its ok, doesnt live up to its hype but its still fun as hell to play. And sony fanboys that read this ur stupid … i bought a wii then lookd i was going to get the ps3 i really rethought that after all the games got pushd back. and yes i did buy a 360 it was a really worth it. i have to of the best systems out and happy about it

I have been playing video games since the late 70’s. I have never anticipated any video game as much as I have anticipated this one. This game rocks! I’m getting used to some of the new controls, but I still have not got used to the amount of information they have placed on my HD screen. I catch myself forgetting about being shot by the covenant forces due to the fact that the screen is absolutely beautiful. My wife actually sat down and actually commented on how the game looked?!
There may be a basher or two on this site, due to eating paint chips as a child I think, but this game is sooo worth the $75. Nintendo Wii and the new Metroid you are next!!
wrong, warcraft bc did not sell 5 million copies opening day. it sold 2.7 mill. don’t know how many copies halo 3 sold but they had 1.7 mill in preorders alone, so it will be up there. money wise, halo 3 set the record for biggest opening day in entertainment history with $170 million in sales in 24hours

The thing about the game engine is that they cant change it all that much without pissing off fans for ruining the feel of the game. I already know many people who are pissed that reload is RB and LB. If they were to make it GoW style or R6 Vegas, it would tear away some aspects of the game. GoW shouldn’t even count because it’s not a true FPS, its a 3rd person game.
Note: if anything I type doesn’t make sense, it’s probably cause I’m tired. Did alot today, faked sick, beat campaign, and found away to get internet to my basement so i can get XBox Live.
look it up noob, or better yet just google it. hundreds of articles saying that halo 3 set the record for biggest opening day sales in entertainment history. that includes all types of gaming as well as movies. runner up was spiderman 3 with around 150 mil for opening weekend. and that was just U.S sales figures, wait till you get the world wide figures. if halo3 did not break the record as you say RedvsBlue then what game did… funny how u failed to mention that in your post, idiot
I can’t wait to get home from Deployment here in the Middle East so I can play it. I already got my legendary waiting for me at home! ahhhhhhh i hate it 2 more months to go.

Campaign was a bit short but then I am sure Bungie wanted this game to be played for many years to come so they designed a perfect on line game.
HAlo 3 isnt actually a grounbreaking game, those of you are right, however
the Halo series DID bring regenerating permanent shields to the FPS market, something which hasnt been done before to my knowledge(i started with FPS’s back with Castle Wolfenstein 3d, and Castle Gate, in the 80s)
dual wield ability, which is more a bungie thing, since Marathon had that(altho, there are rumors that Marathon is basically the forerunner to Halo)
however, for something that EVERYONE can enjoy, (my girlfriend who hates first person shooters recently loaded up my Halo:Combat Evolved for the PC and fell in love) Halo 3 is certainly a satisfying game to play
hopefully, altho this is the end of the primary storyline, Bungie will decide to put out Expansions and/or alternate storyline games to this
and for one of you(cant remember who it is) seriously, Halo is a bad copy of Unreal tournament? What a game, I went out yesterday and brought a 360 Elite(what a bargain the Elite is with all that power) and Halo 3 after seeing this game at a friends house, will be game of the year…
I am looking for an reason to buy an Xbox 360, so when Halo 3 came out I went to my friends house to play it, yeah it looks better than H2 but it still looks like a kids game. Silly character design is not attractive to me. It needs to have more adult content. It shipped 1.7 million copies and even if everyone buys them, 1.5 million sold are under the age of 17. GoW did look much better than Halo does now but i still am buying a system that its big games are FPS. I am also afraid of the failing HDDVD format of the Xbox. As far as Halo 3 goes, It needs to grow up a bit.

i got the legendary H3, i think that it is by far the best game out there, though i still have a habbit of trying to BxR. The wepons are to strong in this game, like i can shoot 6 shots with an AR and beat down a guy. need helping getting 30+ in everything… half way there…. add me

360 has lost money? My only thought on how you came to that conclusion is because of the problems with the red ring of death with earlier consoles. I’ll admit that warranty repairs could be costly but I don’t believe they could out way the huge sales of both the console and the imense library of games available. However, microsoft has recitified the situation and offered a 3 year warranty for this issue. And THAT is the mark of a good company, when you can admit your mistakes AND offer a solution to the problem. That is why I believe that microsoft is going to win this generation of console wars. That and they have Halo 3.
Sorry if I sounded like a microsoft employee. I’m really not. I do own a 360 Elite and love Halo 3. I have also play tons of other FPS on other consoles Like Resistance on PS3 and Metroid on Wii (at friends homes) and while these are both good games I think that Halo 3 will simply outlast them. Look at Halo 2 stats on bungie.net. It is the most played game on xbox live and hase logged almost a billion hours of online play. I don’t think any other FPS can claim 1 billion hours of play over 3 years time. I could be wrong.
And BiA SIERRA 117 was my gamertag before Halo 3 came out. I didn’t make it based on the first level of Halo 3.
