Cryptic has stepped up as a sponsor for GenCon 2008 along with co-sponsorsWizards of the Coast and card game maker Upper Deck. This popular analog gaming convention is including an after hours eGame arena courtesy of Cryptic. Not only is the venue new to the convention, it will be the first chance for the public to play Champions Online.
The Champions pen and paper RPG has been around since 1981. While the game is certainly not new to GenCon regulars, the Champions Online MMO will be a first. Cryptic owns the Champions IP now and the Champions P&P RPG is going through another revision which will bring it and its MMO name sake closer together as far as setting and characters. You can read more about it in Gaming Today’s regular feature The Analog Gamer: SuperGenre Part I.
GenCon 2008 is scheduled for Aug. 14-17 in its traditional Indianapolis setting. For more information on the convention, check into the GenCon 2008 website.
