Cryptic Studios’ Jackalope, Arkayne and Heretic are back to answers questions on the upcoming Champions Online from Ask Cryptic. Once again questions on the new super hero MMO are leveled at the developers who answer to the best of their abilities. The Cryptic devs assure players that they won’t have to be intimately familiar with the Champions PnP rules to create characters. There self proclaimed motto is “zero to hero in no time flat.”
Considering there is already City of Heroes, Champions Online needs to do the Super Hero shtick bigger and better to set itself apart. There are several features in the works to accomplish this goal. In addition to instances, the devs promise “large-scale threats in almost every world location that players will need to team up to take down, ranging from giant monsters to alien invaders and super-powerful villains.” Players will be able upgrade basic abilities over time to tailor them to their character concept.
Arkayne: Upgrades come in a multitude of forms. Some are external (i.e. pieces of power armor) and others are internal (i.e. mutagen serums). The visuals vary from costume pieces to different glows, FX, etc. As players advance their heroes they can acquire upgrades with amazing new visual components to customize their hero.
Please keep in mind that these visual changes are optional, and that players can simply turn them off if they think it doesn’t suit their characters. We understand that most players want to define a unique “look” for their heroes and we want to give them as many customization options as we can.
Players will be able to change the colors of their powers. They will also be able to modify custom animations with Stances and Facial Expressions. There will be a devlog out soon on this system.
