When Star Trek Online’s gameplay was first unveiled a couple weeks ago, fans had mixed reactions. Some thought the game looked great and liked the ideas behind it, while others questioned just how much the game would really feel like Star Trek. as such, Cryptic has now begun posting some developer Q&A’s to address some of the main concerns raised by fans. The first round of questions were answered by lead designer, Al “Captain Geko” Rivera, and executive producer, Craig “Zinc” Zinkievich. First off, Rivera explained how the game will remain true to the source material:
Every series and movie is considered canon, and we are staying very true to this in our development. Star Trek is rich with lore and history, and there is a great deal of material to build upon as we move into the 25th century with Star Trek Online. We are working with CBS to ensure that everything we create is true to Trek and makes sense.
The two also talked about how gameplay will center around exploration and shaping the universe and how players will be able to trick out their starships. I personally can’t wait to give my ship some neon trim, hydraulics, and a bumper sticker reading “Romulans do it in the Neutral Zone.” (I think I just turned a shade paler by merely typing that.)
