Crackdown 2 Not in the Works

Sandbox fans will be disappointed to hear that Realtime Worlds isn’t working on Crackdown 2 – and probably won’t be for the foreseeable future, as their plate is pretty full working on APB, a cops and robbers MMO and another unnamed project set for release in 2009.
“Microsoft were a little late in stepping up to the plate to ask for Crackdown 2,” Wilson said, “and by then we had already started working on bigger, better things.”via 1UP

I was really looking forward to the prospect of the original Crackdown, and even though I had a little fun when I first played it, overall I was pretty disappointed. Especially since there really was no storyline except for “kill the gangs”.
While the lack of a story was disappointing, ultimately I think it was for the best. They shouldn’t have tried to half-ass it, though, which made the problem more glaring.
About a month ago I started playing the game again, but just co-op with a friend of mine who had just gotten a 360. And I gotta say — playing with a friend that you know well, the game just gets ridiculously fun. It truly was the epitome of a sandbox game. Sure, we went through and killed all the gangs, but then we were looking for ways to MAKE fun ourselves. Good stuff.
