Console Holiday Releases 2007

*UPDATED*

In what may go down as one of the most critical holiday seasons in gaming history, the major players in the console market are swinging for the fences. This list is a venerable who’s-who of major gaming titles. The list itself is staggering, with more than 60 titles represented. (That’s not to mention the titles that I omitted for lack of popularity). Just glancing at this list makes my wallet burst into flames.

Disclaimer: For purposes of this list, the holiday season starts 8/1. I checked multiple sources for verification of these release dates. Nevertheless, most of these release dates are not 100% confirmed. If I missed a title you are eagerly anticipating (And no, MGS4 is not coming out this year) be sure to let me know, I’ll try to update the list if necessary.

  2. egon says:

    Pro evo 2008, yes.

Bigs, no. Bigs comes out like this month, and he said the list starts on 8/1

  3. egon says:

 He said the holiday season starts on 8/1. BIGS comes out like this month.

Pro Evo 2008 might be in there tho.

  4. Norbit says:

The new trailer for MGS4 that was released a few weeks ago said it would be released this year so what have you heard since then that calls that into question?

Is Killzone 2 not also being released near the end of the year?

BTW Alan Wake, Two Worlds, Bioshock, and Conan are multiplatform not 360 exclusives.

  5. eren says:

    brother in arms hells highway?
haze is ps3 exclusive this year
call of duty 4 and burnout revenge
    wt bout them

  6. egon says:

    Norbit:

MGS 4 definitely not till 2008, just do a search. It was all over the news a few weeks ago.

IGN has Killzone 2 listed for 2008.

Alan Wake is definitely an Xbox 360 exclusive. Even mentions of a PS3 version get you locked on the Alan Wake forums.

Bioshock has ZERO current information regarding PS3 release, you can be sure it’ll be at least 2008.

  7. Norbit says:

egon I’m not saying Alan Wake, Two Worlds and Bioshock are being released on the PS3, they are all being released on the PC. They are not 360 exclusives and don’t say that PCs don’t count because of course they do. An exclusive is a game you can only play on one system meaning you have to buy that system to play them. I can play those 3 games and I don’t own 360 nor do I intend to buy one so how can they be exclusive to the 360? If I didn’t own a PC there is a good chance I would buy a 360 because then it would have some good exclusives.

  8. egon says:

    Norbit:

I’m not seeing your point here. The impact of this list is for consoles. PC gaming has always been sort of it’s own entity, as the games do not SELL the systems. Nobody buys their first computer to play Command and Conquer 3, but they do buy an Xbox 360 FOR Halo 3.

I really see no point in a PC gamer making a stink over Xbox 360 exclusives anyway, because chances are they pretty much ALL are going to make their way to the PC. Microsoft has been porting over PC and Xbox titles like crazy lately, and with the inclusion of a PC version of Xbox Live, the trend will only continue.

  9. William says:

egon. I can see what you are saying. Very few people ever purchase a PC for gaming. Of course they eventually use their PC for games, but it almost always has a primary purpose other than games.

  10. Norbit says:

You cannot describe a game being released on the PC as well as the 360 as being a 360 exclusive. As I’ve already pointed out I can play these so called exclusives and I don’t have a 360!

William said: Very few people ever purchase a PC for gaming.

    That’s simply not true.

The biggest selling packaged PC games:

    The Sims – 16 million
    StarCraft – 9.5 million
    Half-Life – 8 million
    Myst – 6 million
    The Sims 2 – 5 million
    RollerCoaster Tycoon – 4 million
    Half-Life 2 – 4 million
    Populous – 4 million

  11. egon says:

    norbit:

The point I’m trying to make has no bearing on the popularity of certain titles. As per this “CONSOLE HOLIDAY RELEASES 2007″ article is concerned, the titles are exclusive to Xbox 360, insomuch as the fact that Microsoft itself has procured the rights to them.

Whether the PC gets them or the Xbox 360 or both, the point is that Sony and Nintendo users will not play them this year. If PC games had been listed under holiday releases, then maybe your argument would hold sway, as it stands, it has no basis on the nature of the article itself.

  12. Marcsu says:

Lost Odyssey is an Xbox 360 exclusive RPG due out late 2007.

    egon said:

“Whether the PC gets them or the Xbox 360 or both, the point is that Sony and Nintendo users will not play them this year”

What are you talking about? I’m a Sony user and I will be playing those games. Reason? Because they are not 360 exclusive. Whatever. If you want to artificially inflate the list of 360 exclusives do so.

BTW I’m interested to know why people think MGS4 won’t be out this year. Konami said 3 weeks ago that it will be and last week Sony spokesman Jonathan Fargher said it will be.

  14. ACEA says:

if it comes on the 360 and not Wii or PS3 the it is a console exclusive and its always been that way because the PC is not in the next gen console war. The reason consoles exist is because people cant afford a top of the range gaming Pc’s pure and simple. You have to spend over £2000 to get a PC capable of running latest games. The only reason you find 360 games on PC is because Microsoft develops the OS so it makes sense to port to both 360 and PC. If OS was created by Sony you can guarantee the PS3 games would be on the PC.

  15. BFrosty says:

This is the console wars, not the system wars. PC’s dont coun’t towards exclusivity in the console arena IMO. If PC’s did count, it would simply be called something like the system wars. Anyhow, regardless of who has what exclusives, one thing is for sure, gamers are going to reap the benifits with some great titles being released. There’s about to be a flood of great games, our problem, how to afford them all~!
