Command and Conquer 3 Patch: Rumors of Bugs Left Unfixed

With the recent announcement of a new patch out later this month for C&C 3, a number of users are already concerned over the fact that this new patch doesn’t address several critical bugs and other issues. While the new patch will primarily adjust the balancing of the different units and resolve some unfair tactical discrepancies, it doesn’t seem to address a number of issues that prevent some people from even playing the game. Key among these is complaints of players being completely unable to access the online lobby due to it crashing, freezing, or even displaying a “Ghost ‘OK’ Box,” which seems to be a window with an “OK” Box that does nothing. Worse still, even after this and another previous patch, EA still does not seem to have addressed this problem, nor even acknowledged its existence.
Honestly, I have not played this game, so I haven’t experienced these issues first-hand, nor do I really understand fully what this Ghost “OK” Box bug is all about. However if anyone out there could clarify things, feel free to comment on it, since this sounds like a a very serious issue that would severely diminish the value of the overall game.
Yeah, I get that ghost ok box almost always when trying to get into the lobby or automatching. I am still able to play some games, but it really tries my patience because when that ghost ok box comes up, the entire screen freezes and you can’t do ANYTHING except hard restart your computer. It’s annoying as hell.

Command and Conquer 3 is sadly one of the least technically tested applications that exsists for Windows today. I have never encountered a game so buggy, poorly built and tested as this. There have been countless problems for people running Linksys routers and trying to connect to even a single multiplayer game or access their poorly constructed, low-bandwidth servers. The things EA is doing with this game are just sloppy mistakes due to under-experienced programmers and server technicans. Even with their recent patch they have created more problems for countless users. Some people (including myself) cannot even launch the game now due to critical Windows errors that never exsisted before this filthy patch was launched. Again, sloppy, sloppy moves on behalf of EA. I will never spend my money on one of their products again. Pathetic.
Command and Conquer 3 and Generals have given me no shortage of headaches. At least Generals is somewhat playable. CC3 crashes after a few minutes of game play. I have done almost everything including using older drivers for my nvidia 6200 card. (The game does not even work on the newest driver at all) EA for the PC is absolutely garbage. I will not ever buy another command and conquer. I’m going to patiently wait for starcraft 2.

I jus bought the kane edition version an FFS it works all good till i build any type of building well obviously u have to build a power plant for starters so its the only building available so i buid it and poof back to ma desktop wid an error message, C&C, Vista and nvidia shite am pissed off to hell. anybody else had the same problems or felings please do share.

I bought this game today. I installed it and my computer meets all the min. requirements, passing some. When I try to run it, I see it start to load then the screen goes black and my computer restarts. No message, nothing just restarts. If anyone knows how to fix or had a similar problem please post.

hey starless_knight, i’ve got the exact same problem as you do. the menus are fine, the moment i run a game and i build a power plant and deploy it, my cnc3 just stops running and returns to desktop saying that there was an error. Please, anyone has an answer and remedy for this? i need help.
this game is awesome but unfortunately the bug make it sux.. the game crash after few minutes!! it say error on enc3game! wtf??

I am having the same problem, have C&C3 installed and patched to 1.05, and the game crashes after a few minutes into the game with a long list of errors, at the bottom going “due to the severity of this error, the game will now close”.
I’ve updated all drivers, directx etc, I even took out my nVidia 6200 and put in an ATI 9600 to see if it was the GPU that was the problem…. nope, with the ATI card it won’t even load the into EA movie before it crashes.
Well done EA.

I have the 1.04 patch and the game still crashes every couple of minutes. This game is really annoying. But anyway, I’ll try to install the 1.05 patch later today and see if everything will do just fine. And, guys, I saw this page discussing about modifying the registry entry. bought the game and installed after many attempts b/c the security on it is crap and causes the drives to stop spinning. under windows xp pro with 3.8 ghz proc. o/c 512mb radion 2 gigs mem 500 gig hd
I know I meet the min requirements and then some the damn game keeps crashing when tring to install.
Have formated countless times updated all drivers, flashed the cd rom and still am to no aval. I think EA needs to get there head stright and figure this crap out
I have searched the net pretty well and found I am not the only one that has had countless troubles installing and playing the damn game.
Any one know how to fix this?
Yes you have to read the instructions very carefully when installing. You have to close all background programs AND PROCESSESS that aren’t Local Service, System, Network Service or explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe. Then when you run the game you have to keep all but those processes closed. It should work. This is the only game I’ve played where I actually read the installing instructions; it’s basically what I said above but check for reference.

Soooo frustrating, I have 3 machines that I have tried to install this on, one keeps showing the message about updating drivers and direct x which I have done, another one display “incorrect system clock” no matter what I do and the other one starts and runs for about a minute and then crashes with an error. Completely pathetic. I purchased 2 copies, one for myself and one for my brother, taking them both back to the shop, what a waste of a great game, it looks awesome, just a shame no one can play it
I found some what of a cure don’t know how long it will work.. but here it is
there some crappy issue that if you have windows xp pro installed that when you install the damn game it won’t work. The cure that I found to fix this is
A complete reinstall of the os… But since I have done this many times now i got frusterated and just finally ghosted my hd to differnt incraments. one is right before patch.
It is up and working for now.. but who knows how long this will last.
But i found that if you completley reinstall os that it seems to work for some reason. What crap
Yeah sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t, either way this game is a pain in the ass to play; I only do sometimes because my cousin has it. (Can’t run Aim, iTunes or any program while it’s on) And it’s not that bad of a game in itself

Mine just shows the logo, then a black screen then crashes, after reading this its going back tommorow!
I love the game… when it works everything works great (exept for online cus my computer wont accept paches or some crap) anyway it works fine till i turn my computer off, then when i come back to it i try to start it up it shows the box with C&C written in it and the it just freezes and i have to re-start, and re-install but now i cant even do that because when i try and un-install C&C it sais it isnt installed so now i cant even install or un-install. so because of this C&C is officialy a load of shit (unless someone can give me a cure for this problem)
You have to install and run it a certain way read the instruction manual or scroll up
now it wil let me install it but after it prepares the installer i press the next button and it freezes
.. all they do is hide behind doors, grab your money and hide.. I am about to call the local prosecuting attorney and have them thrown in jail for fraud..

I really had a problem with this game. It kept crashing after about 5 min of play in skimish mode and I could not even start a campaign. Then I tried something completely stupid that worked. I went into the options screen and set the video setting from ‘Very Low’ to ‘Med’, and the game has played fine since.
I have not tired to set the video settings back (although I did try ‘High’ and it worked as well), I just leave it on ‘Med’ and play the game. Not bad once you get it started.

Hard to believe, and this after I was turned down for a job at EA.
Got the game a few days ago. Tried it on, able to install, but after installation boot into EA logo and then the screen just gone blank. My PC configure AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+, Nvidia 7600 GS running on SLi, 2 GB RAM, Win XP MCE. Tried disconnect my graphic card and make it run on single card, still doesn’t work same problem. Update patch 1.06 for the game and install Nvidia driver 162+, doesn’t work either.
Shamed you EA!!
i called ea games that hey said if your trying to play it on a laptop i is not going to work good or not work at all…….

The game kept crashing and going back to my window after a few minutes. I met all the requirement and more but my RAM was at min 512MB so I decided to go by another 512MB, now the game keeps giving me that cnc3game.dat error that everybody is talking about. I’m very proud of you guys EA

HSTN, I had the same black screen, as well as a 3d-error, can’t find disk error ect.. To play I had to remove all traces of the game & the updates, disable-SLI & not install the UPDATES. Oh, yeah & I had to set compatability mode to XP servp2.
…nevermind, I played it all night last night, today it crashes when I go to build a structure.
Wow, after reading this I MIGHT be able to finally play it- got the Kain edition on the first day it came out, and I was looking forward to playing it and suddenly… Windows is now starting up?
Honestly, this is the only game I’ve left to pick up dust literally only hours after BUYING it. I seriously hope that my comp isn’t affected by any of the other bugs aswell…
OK, i got it to work with vista, first download the no-cd patch (google it) plus this saves your cd. Install the game and follow the no-cd instructions, don’t play it from the autorun cd menu download all updates but before you play go to the installation directory and delete all of the *.SkuDef files except for the 1.0. If you have multiple video cards with SLI you have to disable it each time you play. I did this on three computers my son’s and my laptop just to test. Hope, this helps out. I read on other blogs that some ppl have to play it in xp-compatibility mode it works both ways on my pcs. This also fixed the game crash during bldg construction. I have graphics on ultra and it runs smooth.

I purchased C&C Tiberian Wars and it has pretty much been a pile of shit chock full of DirectX errors and crashes. I am amazed a company such as EAS would allow such terrible software out the doors. It really marks them bad in my eyes and I will be hesitant with future purchases from them.
Man at least now I know its not only me. Everytime I get myself a decent base going the game freakin crashes, and I’m usually too into what im doing to remember to save. My PC well exceeds the minimum requirements but shiet, apparently this looks like their flagship game as of right now and w/ the frequent crashing it doesnt make EA look so good.. And as David Turner said “It really marks them bad in my eyes and I will be hesitant with future purchases from them.” Pretty much the best way to put it.
i have no idea whats going on with this game, ive tried everything from the no cd patch to deleting the .Skudef files, updating sound and graphic drivers, and yet i still can even get to the opening screen. if anyone figures out another way of fixing this let me know >
Would hate it if i was the only one that couldn’t play. Very annoying
!! Game starts, goes through the EA logo then crashes and reboots the PC every time. No errors, no idea why. Updated to 1.06. turned off firewall and antivirus, updated directx and sound. Tried no CD patch too. Haven’t tried to delete .Skudef files yet but that is definately my next option…. along with the CNC3.exe file 
I would like to say I had the Ghost oK box and got rid of it by uninstalling IE (7.0 i think) the latest version of IE. Once I downgraded my internet explorer belive it or not it worked so much better.
ive got the game for a week now but it works fine.. i never had any problems running the game or during the game

Does anyone on this site know how to spell? Anyway, I experienced some of these problems, but I got the 1.06 patch after about a week, and I’ve didn’t have any more problems. My vid card is an ATI Radion X1550 and it runs fine, with the updated driver. My RAM is like 1g, not too high, it gets the job done. The crit. error most of you discribe is probably a lack of RAM, the return to desktop, restart w/o message and such. With others, this is a VERY high grade game, and the min. requirements on the box are a joke. On Vista, this game just will not run correctly (according to the people I’ve talked to) without a really buffed up system. The multiplayer ghost box? Well, I’ve never got the problem, so, I don’t know. I’m no expert, but thats what it looks like to me…

I have experinced the close stright to desktop and multi crashes even after new 1.06 patch. The funny thing is that I exceed the min. by far.
I run the ati x1300 512 card 2 gig ram 3.0 ghz dual core and multi multi extended cooling. Every thing is legit, But I would like to find out one thing from the people experincing the crashes if they have installed any vb run times or vb it’s self.
I do some minor programming and after I install vb.net I find that the game craps out.
I have found some work arounds as well but they are only temp fixes.
they are as follows:
If the game craps at splash you can try against the contraty goto compatiblity mode and turn off advanced text features that for some reason will some times leave it start.
Also recomend running a ghost image or some other form of back up start with clean install i usally run my back up as soon as drivers are installed, if you play on line maybe not every one but I experince this after a couple days on line play it will work for about 20 mins then crap out with error so i reload my ghost image back to right before it was patched and repatch and it will work again for some amount of days.
Now note these aren’t the most time effecient work arrounds but they are the only help I have found to help

on my pc with an nvidia 6200 i can run it on ultra high it looks good and runs at full speed but their is no curser i have to geuss and on my other pc with a ati 9550 it can only run on med but i think its my processer and the betwen videos don’t work! on my new lappy it crashes as soon as i destroy a enemy bulding
I’ve installed this game on about 3 different systems,
System one was a AMD duel core, XP pro, Nvidia 7600, 1 gb Ram, the game worked perfect, online game play was working good too, I completed the whole game and played alot of skirmish.
Syetem two was a AMD single core, XP pro, Nvidia 7800, 2 gb ram, same deal as above, although i’m just starting the campaigns for the second time through.
System 3 was a laptop, I didn’t expect it to run on, and I was correct, the laptop didnt even meet the minimum requirements, so working as expected.
All you people with problems, I would advise you to, check the way your maintaining your systems, I always try to keep mine in top condition, latest updates, drivers, and make sure to clean out the old ones properly first, also don’t have things like virus scanners e.t.c. running when you try to install.
