Coming Soon: Video Games in TSA Training

tsa_logo.gifIt’s not exactly a first for government agencies, apparently, but using video games for employee training sessions is an awesome idea.

A few days ago, the Transportation Security Administration posted on the Federal Business Opportunities web site a six-month contract position for someone who could help them make video games to train their employees. According to FCW.com, the agency has a database of images of weapons and explosives at their disposal, which would help to create a real-life situation. The agency also hopes that it will help employees speed up the process of searches, and make them more productive at their job.

“Games with a purpose” is what they are calling it, though I would disagree that other games serve no purpose. Obviously, playing video games is fun–it’s leisure time, and some would say at its best.

Why stop at the TSA? Why not have video games to train people be better waiters or waitresses? How fast can you serve those bitchy customers, eh? Except, hold off, I guess, on Lethal Enforcers to train police officers. Bad idea.
