You don't get into it for the money, simply because there's not a whole lot of money to be made (although I'm always hoping that will change). Only the very elite actually make good money by making games for a living. And those people are so good at what they do, they could really do anything else and still make a fortune at it. This is why I've gone the hardware path with my education. There's better money to be made there. Cellphones, handheld devices, embedded technologies. Sounds boring to most, but at least it keeps food on the table. People who get into this niche of an industry do it for the love and passion of making games.
