New developer Colony Studios is one of many new MMO studios to hit the business. What makes this one so different? “Our collective contributions to a significant number of hit MMOs give us a strong advantage,” says CEO Michael Wallis, himself a veteran MMO developer. The Colony Studios team includes members who have worked on such varied projects as World of Warcraft, EVE Online, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot, Lord of the Rings Online, Everquest, and Ultima Online. Wallis has said that their planned MMO will not be a “safe” MMO, meaning that we won’t see another WoW clone morphed to a new IP. “Our MMO, which will offer far more than a linear storyline, will provide a ton of history and backstory, but the players will consistently influence the content,” says Wallis.
While there’s very little info on what that MMO may be, the studio’s website offers up this tidbit, “It’s too early to announce specifics, as we’re hard at work developing a space-based sci-fi MMO.” If their experience in the genre is any indication, it should be a good one.
