08af1 Coldplay Confirmed for Guitar Hero III Surprised? Thought NotThe press releases from Activision are a never ending stream flooding our in-boxes of late – so much so that I feel like I will drown in a sea of them. You think I jest? Then look over our previous posts and see how many have been sent our way in the month of June alone. In case you are not interested enough to hit the link, I will make it easy for you. There have been 10… 10 flipping entries consisting of press releases, new assets or content announcements. If you like Guitar Hero III (which I do in theory), it is no big deal for you – but if Activison does not want the money plane to crash land anytime soon, they need to step back and take a vacation for a while.

Enough of my rambling, on to the point of POST #11.

Last week you may recall that Chris Martin of Coldplay mentioned that he and the boys would be releasing their new single “Violet Hill” on GH III in celebration of the band’s new album “Viva La Vida” hitting store shelves. Today this was confirmed, and should you decide to download it, not only will you be getting “Violet Hill” but also master recordings of “Yellow” and “God Put a Smile on Your Face”.

The Coldplay Track Pack will be made available on June 19th for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 and if you are interested in picking up the new CD, it launches worldwide on June 17th.

You know, I like Coldplay. Not really fond of their last effort, but I like them nonetheless. I just do not understand why they are releasing music via GH III instead of Rock Band. I personally feel that the band would receive a much more appreciative audience via Rock Band as the songs are more melodic than rockin’ per say, and it might be pretty entertaining to try and mimic Chris’ falsetto – especially on the song “Yellow”. Add to this the fact that 90% of their music is very piano-centirc it just does not fit the “Guitar Hero” mold in my opinion.

Nothing at all against Coldplay, but I just do not see them pulling in the download numbers on GH III that a band such as Metallica would or even Weezer for that matter. They just do not fit-in with the majority of offerings currently available.

I agree with you 100%. Personally, I will always put Rock Band above GHIII. But, personal opinions aside, I just don’t see Coldplay being a great pick for GH either. Those who play Guitar Hero tend to play more with an arcade feel. It’s not about how amazing a song is, it’s more about speed. Rock Band tends to have more tracks that are fun to play on any instrument. Throw in the fact that Coldplay tends to not have a lot of great guitar parts, and I just don’t see why they’d put their material in Guitar Hero and not Rock Band.
