City of Heroes has a new Developer Diary entry up. “Turning Literature into Content” is posted by Lead Designer Matt “Positron” Miller. A word of Caution, the original article does contain spoilers which I won’t divulge here for those of you who would rather draw your own conclusions as you play the game. Miller explains that in Chapter 10, the development team goes back to the apocalypse for inspiration. He chose the biblical version in the Book of Revelation and set about adapting the story line involving the Rikti. Players can look forward to facing the Four Horseman, the Dragon, the Beast from the Sea, and the Abyss before the big reveal, the coming of the False Prophet. Here’s an example of how Miller channeled inspiration into action:

For the Four Horsemen, I wanted a group of Rikti Elite Bosses that had powers that played off one another. We had the Rikti Heavy Assault Suits that we could modify with the necessary powers and make our own version of Famine, War, Pestilence and Death. The mission itself plays out fighting one, then two, then three, and finally all four at the same time.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this all plays out in-game. A strong story line is just the thing to keep me interested in any game and this one promises to be well executed. It’ll be fun to see how the Heroes will save their world from the apocalypse.
