Church Calls for Resistance to be Pulled from BAFTA Awards

Guess the whole Church of England versus Resistance: Fall of Man thing isn’t quite done yet. Now the Church of England is calling for BAFTA to revoke the game’s nomination from the British Academy Video Games Awards, due to the “virtual desecration” of the Manchester Cathedral. The game has been nominated in the PC World Gamers’ Award, a category based on sales of a title. A spokesperson for the church explained:
“We had to resort to legal advice to get Sony to a meeting and the row… helped sales. The game has been nominated because of how well it’s done in the charts. This nomination is like rubbing salt in the wounds.”
I can kind of see why the Church of England would be upset from a copyright standpoint, but I really hope BAFTA ignores these pleas and keeps the game in the running. These awards are based on rules established by the Academy, and I don’t think the church really has any place to say what can and cannot be nominated. It seems like this is the sort of thing that could set a bad precedent.

AAARRGGHH!!! cant they just let it rest!
i really do hate it when religous types feel they have some kind of divine right to tell everyone what to do or think.

They dont own the copyright on the church. AFAIK the only reason Sony apologised was to shut them up. They actually did nothing wrong.
