Champions Online - Cryptic Talks Changes in Dev Blog

Cryptic’s chief creative officer Jack Emmert has put up a dev blog on Champions Online on the changes in the studio since it was founded. Cryptic has learned a lot from its first MMO City of Heroes, and is applying those lessons to make Champions Online great.

One of the changes made in development is that production was stopped for two weeks so the team could take time to play the game.

We, as a Design team, wanted to be known for polished content. Using that as inspiration, I really wanted this zone to reach a new quality level.

It’s not that we hadn’t playtested our previous games. Not at all. But I think we were more focused on getting it done… We certainly stayed late at night and played together. But we never stopped development for two weeks and said – “stop making new things and just make what we’ve got GREAT.”

They homed in on a lot of bugs, but more importantly they also found out first hand if the MMO was fun.
