If you were looking forward to the HD DVD Promotion Group’s press conference events at CES tomorrow, you might as well forget about it. The following statement was issued by the organization:

Based on the timing of the Warner Home Video announcement today, we have decided to postpone our CES 2008 press conference scheduled for Sunday, January 6th at 8:30 p.m. in the Wynn Hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are currently discussing the potential impact of this announcement with the other HD DVD partner companies and evaluating next steps. We believe the consumer continues to benefit from HD DVD’s commitment to quality and affordability – a bar that is critical for the mainstream success of any format.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on new developments around HD DVD.

I’m slightly surprised that they have completely canceled the event. Assuming HD DVD still had a chance, they would still be able to throw something together at the last minute. With the way things are looking, HD DVD has finally lost the format war with Blu-ray. Perhaps we can go back to our normal lives again and not worry about this debacle that has gone on for way too long. Look for HD DVDs in the $5 bin at your local Wal Mart in the near future.

About time if you ask me. Consumers always lose in this sort of war. Now all the people who paid from HD disks can file them away, sucks to be you.
