Atari and CD Projekt RED have announced that The Witcher Enhanced Edition will hit the shelves September 16th kicking off “Witcher Week.” They’ll be celebrating with daily updates including CD Projekt RED developer diaries, downloads, previews, videos and more on The Witcher website.

Stardock is also getting into the spirit of Witcher Week. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is now available on Impulse for a discounted pre-order at 10% off. The offer is good up until September 15 at 11:59pm CDT.

When the The Witcher came out last year it was a solid award winning game, but had some inherent flaws as was mentioned in the Gaming Today impression as well as the 1UP review. The Witcher Enhanced Edition is a revamped version of the original game that is what the CD Projekt RED team had always envisioned putting out.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition includes a bundle of improvements and new content, including two new adventures, more than 200 new animations, faster loading times and much more. The game is also packed with bonus items, including two music CDs, making-of videos, an official game guide and a map of The Witcher’s world. Additionally, the ability to use any combination of localized voiceovers and subtitles allows for greater customization.

“We’re thrilled to release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition on Impulse,” said Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt RED. “Stardock’s values fit well in line with our own; keeping gamers happy is one of our main goals, and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is the ultimate fan service. We took all of the fan feedback about the original game and used it to improve the game in a huge number of ways. We hope that this allows us to expose the game to new audiences and old friends alike.”

CD Projekt’s Tom Ole confirmed that the game will also be available on Steam and Direct2Drive as well today. Gamers that previously purchased The Witcher needn’t fear. The Witcher Enhanced upgrade patch will be available around September 19. You can visit The Witcher Community site for more details.

I’ve been looking forward to this update since it was announced. This isn’t just a slew of minor bug fixes but a major overhaul of the script and voiceovers for every language, new NPC models to add variety to the common folk you interact with, new alchemy recipes and sex cards as well. FileFront has a couple trailers on some of these enhancements; The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Dialogue trailer and Character trailer. I’m especially looking forward to dramatically decreased load times. I’ll have more time for fist fighting, gambling, wenching and drinking people under the table instead of waiting for the inside of the Inn to load.

Great! So I bought the game almost a year ago and now I have to wait a week longer to get the enhanced patch than those who are just buying the game. Wonderful.

At least those of us who bought the game earlier will be getting it I suppose, but still irritating.

Technically its at the same time as the European launch.. which is slated for the 19th.
