With Starcraft being possibly the biggest Real-Time Strategy game in the history of Real-Time Strategy games–which is, I guess, not huge, but I think you get the point–how is it that Blizzard managed to keep this one under wraps? You have to assume that there was at least one fanboy working for them that wanted to run naked through the streets screaming about Starcraft’s sequel.
Maybe this could have been me, because all I know is that I loved the original with every ounce of my dorky little heart. In any event, kudos to Blizzard for the surprise, and kudos to Penny Arcade for making me laugh.
Enjoy the strip. And if you have any conspiracy theories to match Penny Arcade, I’d love to read about those as well.
Here’s a great clip from the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational. The clip includes music from Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall. The music is performed by a live band with CG Movie playing in the background including clips from Warcraft 3 and others.
Blizzard’s third annual Worldwide Invitational was held in Seoul, South Korea on May 19 and May 20, 2007.
“The Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals are public events that allow the company to connect with gamers in a celebration of the Warcraft®, Diablo®, and StarCraft® game universes and competitive Blizzard Entertainment® gaming.”
There are some moments where I find myself laughing, and painfully so. This was definitely one of those moments.
Take a second to check out Ctrl+Alt+Del’s latest comic about Starcraft 2–it’s pretty hilarious. I found myself needing to share it with people. Spread the laughter… and the pants.
As much as macs are widely used by musicians and graphic designers, it seems that when it comes to gaming, macs don’t get that much lovin’.
Well, Blizzard feels your pain mac owners. Along with their initial earth shattering announcement of Starcraft 2 being in production, they also announced they are working on a simultaneous release of a PC and Mac version.
President and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime said,
“We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy.”
So there you go mac owners. It seems you’ll be able to battle the Zerg right alongside PC owners when Starcraft 2 is released.
StarCraft 2 Gameplay Video
We’ve got a new trailer showing off the gameplay of Starcraft 2, and man is it a long one. The video states that this is only a demo, so there’s still room for a lot of change, but it already looks like it has the amount of polish and quality we’d expect from a Blizzard title. We get to see several of the new units in action (mostly from the Protoss side), how these units are balanced against each other, and one massive Zerg rush. Be sure to watch the part about the Protoss Mothership, which will be the backbone of most Protoss attacks.
Sorry for the delay folks (Shouldn’t Blizz be saying that?) but I got the StarCraft 2 trailers and screens up for your drooling pleasure. I tell you one thing about Blizz, their cinematics are cherry. Good cut-scenes will draw gamers in faster than an open beta (Vanguard excluded).
Well, if you’re a Starcraft fan, you’re going to need a PC to check out Starcraft 2. Over in the Starcraft 2 FAQ, you’ll find the following Q&A:
Q: Will there be a console version of StarCraft II?
A:StarCraft II is being developed for the PC. We have no current plans to bring the game to any console platform.
So, once again, Blizzard shows no love for the console owners. The only Blizzard title planned for consoles was canned last year, and who knows when the next one will come along. For the PC users, this is your exclusivity revenge.
Regardless, it’s awesome to see the first video clip from what is for many people the most anticipated game since… well… Starcraft: Brood Wars, I guess. But seriously, it’s been nearly ten years since the release of the expansion, and the story was just incomplete.
What I’m most excited about is seeing the Protoss in visual upgraded form. By far, they were my favorite race. The question is, are the new game designers going to make the game as perfectly balanced as the original?
All I have to say is THANK F*CKING GOD. I was getting tired of all this MMO bullsh*t. I’m sorry, you’ll have to excuse me. I’m just an old gamer who felt left out because he never got into WoW.
Anyway, God Bless you Blizzard. You made the right move.
Could this be the answer to the Blizzard announcement puzzle? Best Buy and Toys ‘R Us are both listing Starcraft Ghost on their sites.
For those of you who don’t recall, Starcraft: Ghost was the first-person shooter that Blizz postponed “indefinitely” last year. It was set in the Starcraft universe with a Terran Ghost as the main character. Now, I’m not buying into this 100%, or even 75%, but I have to admit, having those show up is…interesting. I hope, however, that this is NOT the big announcement Blizzard has for tomorrow, as a lot of gamers will be incensed if it is.
