Fallout 3 – Just Five More Days Folks

Five more days until the official unveiling of the Fallout 3 website and Bethesda have released a new screen to keep the salivation to a maximum high. Looks like the Jefferson Memorial has seen better days, along with the rest of D.C. – I would love to see what the Pentagon looks like. Bethesda are doing a great job at keeping the suspense thick, and I am hoping, like most of you, that the Fallout site does not leave us screaming in rage instead of wonderment. Stay tuned.

Todd Howard: “Fallout really does matter”

fallout 3 e32k6 poster Todd Howard: Fallout really does matter

In a thread on the official Bethesda Fallout boards, executive producer Todd Howard takes a few moments to speak about the upcoming game, Bethesda’s responsibility to the the franchise and the fans and just how much he likes super heroes. Howard made great effort to emphasize to boar dmembers that the company does see Fallout as an important product .

“To say we care about Fallout would be an epic understatement. We are excited/humbled to be the ones to bring it back. I know we don’t have all the right answers, or the one’s you would make when it comes to how it should be or look. We can only do what we think is right and what makes us the most excited, and that’s what we’ve done. We’ve left no stone unturned in trying to find Fallout’s “soul”, but those decisions are ours, not yours. I just hope you give the game a look and decide if that soul is there for you.”

“I think I know what it feels like to adopt kids now, because we adopted Fallout and for the last 3 years we have been doing our best to care for it, and now I love it like it had been our child forever; and soon, very soon, we can show him to the world again. I think he’s got something to say, and I think it’s important.”

Howard also answers a number of questions about his inspirations and talks about user populated forums as well. The thread itself contains “Meet the Developer” segments and will be of interest to fans of Fallout and game design in general.

Bethesda Tosses Out More Fallout 3 Concepts

We’ve told you before about the awesome Fallout 3 Concepts. Shawn even speculated that we might get to see Washington DC, instead of the desert this time around. Well, how about a little of both?

Fallout Concept of post-apocalyptic Washington DC Fallout 3 Concept of post-apocalyptic wasteland

As you can see, the nation’s capital (and capitol) looks a little stressed out. Honestly, I was a big Fallout fan for a long time. When I thought the series had died, I was a very sad panda. Bethesda is giving me hope that I will not only see the title rise again, but in grander and greater style than ever. Stay tuned for more.

Fallout 3 Concepts revealed

Anyone who loves the end of the world must love Fallout… so is the mantra of the Wasteland. Bethesda continues to torture/tease longtime fans of the Fallout series with a slight trickle of information about the forthcoming return of the once dead Interplay PC title. Will it be a first-person game? Pete Hines, the master of sadistic game PR for Bethesda won’t come out and say but the concept art now available at the “Teaser Site” for the game looks promising no matter what.Fallout 3 teaser art

The above image looks far more apocalyptic than anything I remember from the Interplay days, who knows maybe we’ll finally get a chance to see a major city like New York or Washington D.C. this time around instead of California and the Nevada desert. More details as the clock ticks down at Bethesda’s Fallout homepage I’m sure..

Liam Neeson, the award winning actor who played in such masterpieces as NEXT OF KIN, will be the star voice-over actor for Fallout 3. He will be playing the main character’s father, and seems pretty pleased with the fruits of his labor on the game. Read the full article »

Black Isle LogoIf you can’t wait to see what Bethesda is going to do with the Fallout IP, or if you just miss the old Fallout, I’ve got good news. The crew over at No Mutants Allowed has released the Van Buren tech demo for Black Isle’s original Fallout 3. While it is a pre-alpha tech demo, you can still install it and check it out if you need that fix. They’ve even posted a guide to accompany the release.

Fallout Poster

Bethesda has made a few updates to the Fallout 3 site. The site now includes a streaming music track, a piece of environment art, and a countdown to the release of the teaser trailer.

See now I would file this under no news is good news. I have already been forced to wait a good number of years for another Fallout fix, but now it has that in your face feel. It’s no different then those calendars that come out at Christmas time, mocking you from the refrigerator door, making sure you are constantly aware that there are XYZ days left before you get the goods. Painfull mocking evil Bethesda. BRB gotta check the timer again.

Fallout 3 Teaser Site and Forums Go Live

Fallout PosterAs any Fallout fan can tell you, Bethesda recently acquired the Fallout IP from Interplay for $5.75 million. Now, Bethesda has opened up forums, and they’ve tossed up a teaser site that basically consists of the picture over to the right. Todd Howard, executive producer for Fallout (and incidentally, for Oblivion), says, “We had known that Fallout had been left behind (when Interplay went bust). The developers were saying ‘we’re really interested in doing something with this IP’ so the business people came back six months later and handed it over saying ‘have fun’.” Howard even said that Oblivion is pretty much done, stating, “I think I’d be surprised if we do another expansion.” The upside of that is, as Howard says, “We have pretty much everybody on Fallout 3 right now. It started off kind of small and then we add people to it and now the expansion’s done, all those people have come on to Fallout 3. That’s the thing we want to focus on right now.

While we don’t know what Bethesda plans for the franchise, a cursory inspection of the forums shows that the players want the same gameplay as the old Fallout. Bethesda, however, has made it clear they will be taking the IP in their own direction. We’ll have to wait and see.

Fallout Is Making A Comeback

If I say “Fallout Boy” and you think boy band please skip to the next article, this isn’t for you. So it’s no secret that I’m a huge Fallout fan. I hold it to be the finest RPG ever made (yea light your torches FF fanboys). Fact is I would take a point in ‘Bloody Mess’ over your mountain of Gil any day. So news that Fallout 3 is back from the dead and actually in production is music to my ears. While I want the game like I don’t know, years ago, I hope the Devs take their time. You hear me Bethesda? Don’t mess with my dreams.
