Activision recently held an event in a bar / nightclub in Hollywood with Infinity Ward at hand ready to show off the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer beta. The evening did have a couple of glitches, mainly the fact that instead of having multiple multiplayer games going on at the same time, they were only able to have one game up and running due to some router issues.Aside from that, the game experience was one I wish everyone reading this could have experienced.
When players first start the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer, they are only allowed to select from a couple of pre-defined classes: Assault, Heavy Gunner, Covert Ops, Demolition & Sniper. When you reach level 4, that’s when the “Create a class†feature is unlocked in the multiplayer menu, and that’s where this portion of the game really shines. The more you play, the more weapons and perks you can unlock for you to use during multiplayer matches.Infinity Ward made sure to inform us there are tons of unlockables for players to achieve through fighting many a multiplayer battle and created the multiplayer this way in order to introduce players to the multiplayer experience properly, rather than throwing us into the game with hundreds of features without knowing what we really should be doing.
Over at the website for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the developers are asking fans to choose what they think the cover art for the game should be. You have to register with the site to see the choices and voice your opinion, but you can also check out some of the more recent updates on the gameplay too. The images shown reflect the Xbox 360 version, but the same art will most likely be applied to the PS3 version as well. They’re all pretty similar, just with a soldier positioned at different distances. I personally like the one above, as it looks most like the box art from the previous games. Though frankly, after seeing the E3 demo, they could put a picture of Dora the Explorer underneath the words “Call of Duty 4″ and I’d still buy it the day it came out.
Activsion’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was awarded the “Best Game of E3 2007″ by G4 Television. COD4: Modern Warfare was among several highly anticipated games showcased at E3 in Santa Monica, California on July 11 – 13.
“We are very pleased that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare earned top honors at E3 2007,†said Will Kassoy, senior vice president of global brand management, Activision – “These awards are a testament to the talented team at Infinity Ward and their unique ability to combine creativity with technological innovation to deliver ground breaking entertainment that appeals to gamers worldwide.â€
Grant Collier, president of Infinity Ward (Game Developer) added, “we are extremely thrilled to be bringing home G4’s top honor, among a showing of strong contenders, from this year’s E3. The team at Infinity Ward has been eager to share their excitement in creating Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and E3 provided the perfect forum to showcase the title among our peers, retailers and media.â€

The epic title also delivers an added depth of multiplayer action providing online fans an all-new community of persistent, addictive and customizable gameplay.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be available this fall for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
Onstage at the E3 Microsoft Press Event tonight, the folks from Infinity Ward made a huge announcement. After showing off some great in-game footage from the upcoming modern combat title, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the real bombshell dropped.
Infinity Ward is tossing out a multiplayer combat demo on XBox Live. They were sparse on details onstage, but you can visit the game’s official site for more details. Of course, as soon as this announcement hit, the site went straight down the tubes. Patience is a virtue!
Also, a teaser from Resident Evil 5 was played, and it looked amazing. The full version of the trailer will be available on XBox Live Marketplace July 26.
There are new screens up for a Call of Duty game that’s in development for the DS. From the looks of things, this installment of the franchise will also take place in a more modern setting. However, the developers are adamant that this is not Call of Duty 4 on the DS; at least, not yet. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see if the frenetic gameplay the series is known for will translate well onto the handheld.
Well at least someone’s throwing out some new info before E3 gets under way. There’s a new trailer up for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but you’ll have to go here to view it. From the looks of things, they’ve pretty much redone the entire Call of Duty franchise, and I’m not just talking about moving the timeframe up a few decades. This trailer confirms that at least part of the game will take place in the Ukraine, just outside Chernobyl, during a time when it appears the country was in the middle of a civil war. It’s all pretty mind-blowing, but just think: this is all supposedly in-game.
If you’ve been an avid reader of Gaming Today, you’d know that for the past couple of weeks I’ve been bringing you the latest Call of Duty 4 information as it’s released. This week’s video is another multiplayer perk, but the question is, is it really a fair perk?
Infinity Ward has revealed their latest perk, the Double Tap. The concept is pretty straight forward. The purpose of double tap is to give the player an increased rate of fire. The reason I made my comment earlier on whether it’s fair or not is because this particular perk opens up new ways of the not so skilled players to completely own a multiplayer game. I know I’d get pissed time and time again if I went up against someone who had this perk activated. The only thing I’m hoping is they have really crappy aim so I can maybe survive the onslaught.
