Like many other people, I was very interested in seeing the ‘official’ unveiling of the PSP Go during Sony’s E3 press conference. Of course, we’d all seen it before the conference started, but I still wanted to see the official reveal.
My first thought was that other than the size of the unit, the PSP Go really wasn’t all that different from the PSP I already own. Over the weekend, I read an interesting article on Ars Technica, where they reached a similar conclusion. I thought I’d share it, as it tracks closely with my early impressions of the system.
The bigger news, according to Ars Technica, is the news that Sony is moving all their PSP distribution to digital, as well as on UMD. However, there’s no reason to buy the new handheld to take advantage of this move to digital. After all, with the right Memory Stick, I can download all these nifty new games onto my existing PSP. So, how will the PSP Go do at retail?

Activision is briefing players on the new Call of Duty 5: World at War Map Pack in a new video. The Shi No Numa footage will prime you for mucking through the swamp battling relentless Imperial zombies with glowing eyes and hell hounds coming at you from all sides. It also gives you a sample of the soundtrack which I’m now convinced I must have after hearing “The One”.
You can view the COD: WaW Map Pack 2 Trailer for yourself along with a guided tour of design and gameplay for Corrosion, Bonzai, Sub Pens, and Shi No Numa after the break. CoD:WaW Map Pack 2will be available for download from Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store Thursday, June 11th.

Hideo Kojima made an appearance at Sony’s press conference to introduce a big Metal Gear Solid game for its new pocket size portable. The new PSP Go has Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in the works. This full Solid Snake game takes place in 1974, ten years after MGS3 making it a true successor.
With E3 2009 in full swing Gaming Today is swimming in trailers for so many awesome games, you’ll forget how slow the first five months of 2009 were. I’ll try to fire off as many as I can in short bursts. Enjoy the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker E3 trailer after the break.

Namco Bandai has unleashed a teaser trailer for it’s latest edition to the classic arcade franchise, Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion. This will be Tekken’s first foray onto the PS3. So far two new characters, Zafina and Bob, have been confirmed of the six new personalities joining the roster of your favorites. Zafina is a very spiritual character intent on the fall of “two evil stars” while Bob is an American martial artist genius.

Following the revelations of earlier today with the Microsoft E3 2009 kickoff events Electronic Arts hits the stage in California at 2PM California time (yes that’s an official time zone… California is more important than the rest of the Pacific time zone… just ask them). We’ve included the embed link to G4TVs JustinTV feed for the event.
I’ll attempt to do a liveblog of the event in the same post as well if you’re interested in my insight into the whole thing.
You can see the embed and the liveblog after the jump. Read the full article »

Activision line up for E3 2009 is chock full of win. The full review has something for everyone showcasing remakes of classic games and sequels with fresh IPs for E3 return to its glory days. Speed demons can hook up with Blur and Tony Hawk: Ride to get their adrenaline rush on. Gamers will wax nostalgic over the updated re-envisioned Wolfenstein, the granddaddy of the FPS, then take a look at it’s latest progeny Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat 2.
Music fans have new bands and features to bump and grind to with Guitar Hero 5 and can explore new genres with DjHero. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is ready for show and sci-fi buffs can get their fill with Singularity and PROTOTYPE. I’m putting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in with sci-fi because I can’t quite make the leap to call them superheroes. Get the full list complete with details on each game after the break.

Rock Band officially goes on the road as Rock Band Unplugged for the PSP hits stores in North America and Europe today. Unplugged packs the best features of the full game into the palm of your hand including Character Creation, Warm Up, Band Survival and World Tour with the PSP wifi function. The game lets your fingers do your strumming for the guitar or bass. You can also finger bang the rhythm to your favorite tracks. I’m not sure how the finger as your peripheral works with vocals, but you can still play that role if you want.
Gamers in North America who haven’t had sufficient incentive to pick up a PSP yet can get a Limited Edition Rock Band PSP Entertainment Pack. It comes with Rock Band Unplugged, A ‘piano black’ PSP and a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo. The US version includes permission for a free download of the School of Rock. I found the movie hilarious and loved the Gene Simmons reality series it inspired but your mileage may vary.
Details on pricing for specific regions follow the break.
