Part of the announcement regarding id Software’s new mobile division, id Mobile, included information about Wolfenstein being brought to both phones and the DS. While it’s not an official announcement, let’s cross our fingers that it happens.
This would be one of the first projects for id Mobile, which is comprised of the former staff of Fountainhead, which was responsible for the DS version of Orcs & Elves.
There’s also the potential for Doom to be brought to the DS, and a Doom RPG sequel (for phones, at least) is likely something that will be developed in due time.

id Software is responsible for some of the all-time classic videogames; Doom, Wolfenstein – that was id and co-founder John Carmack’s doing. The company today announced that it will be forming a mobile division which will focus on developing games for lower-end platforms and, more specifically, mobile phones and the Nintendo DS.
“Obviously right now phones make really poor gaming systems,” Carmack told Wired. “But there’s no techncial reason why, in the coming years, phones don’t become as good gaming machines as something like the Nintendo DS.”
The studio will be made up of the five employees from Carmack’s wife’s studio, Fountainhead, which will in turn be closed. Fountainhead developed id’s Orcs & Elves for DS.
The company will aim to internally develop two games per year, with another two “non-traditional id projects” during the same period. One example of the latter would be a Wii version of Orcs & Elves.
Game|Life has the full transcript of Carmack’s chat with Wired. Read it here.

EA has announced id Software and Fountainhead Entertainment’s Orcs & Elves has gone gold for the Nintendo DS.
Orcs & Elves is a deep fantasy RPG that brings gamers an addictive dungeon-crawling battle between good and evil. The original Orcs & Elves cell phone game has been enhanced to take full advantage of the DS capabilities. The game features a new 3D engine, full 3D sound, more levels, new monsters, and much more.
“Orcs & Elves is an addictive, dungeon-crawling, hack-n-slash RPG that will keep players glued to the DS for hours,” said Katherine Anna Kang, founder and president of Fountainhead Entertainment. “We’re committed to bringing fun packed games to the DS and Orcs & Elves is definitely a great start.”
Orcs & Elves will be available world wide on November 16, 2007.

Its been a few weeks since we had an Open File installment but things are still happening on the many Filefront affiliated websites so without further delay we jump into this weeks edition. The files listed in this feature are selected by the Filefront Hosted Site admins and each week we highlight the most exciting add ons, maps or mods for some of the hottest games in the PC gaming universe. Before linking to the various files and maps for your favorite games its time for a little news.

First, we have a change coming to one of the file sites – namely FarCryFiles. With the announcement and upcoming release of Far Cry 2, the site is taking its first steps to adopt a new name – FarCryFiles will soon become FarCry2Files. This change will combine the current content for Far Cry with the files aimed at its upcoming sequel.

Second, for those who missed it, Stargateworlds.filefront.com has news about the upcoming Stargate MMO on their news page including the release data announcement. Anyone interested in this in-development game should follow the link to find out how SG-1 and the universe of Stargate will become a Massively Multiplayer Game.
Now On to the Files for this week where we feature:
A new Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne multiplayer map.
A Call of Duty: United Offensive map conversion for the popular RTS Company of Heroes
An objective based map for Far Cry where it’s you versus some Mercs
The Doom III Nightmare Mod
Links and descriptions follow after the break.
(I did not write these descriptions BTW so the typos are maintained from the original submissions but I have made some edits to make them more readable.)

The upcoming version 1.2 patch/update for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars packs in a ton of new features which will be much appreciated by those who play it… including some things that should have implemented in the first place. (I’m looking at you, voice chat.) Nevertheless, we didn’t have to wait too long, as the game’s only been out for a month.
In addition to voice chat, the game will be rebalanced on a number of levels (pistols will be more accurate, experience gain improvements), a way to keep teams intact in between maps, updates to the UI, and more.
The full details can be seen at the developer’s blog on the official Quake Wars site.

Sitting down to play Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for the first time, I must admit to being a wee bit excited. After all, I’d just spent a fair bit of time in the beta test, and knowing the potential that this multiplayer online shooter possessed, I was anxious to see how much of that potential was realized at retail.
As a gamer who spent countless hours immersed in the Battlefield series of games, I have been waiting for a successor to that series to emerge since Battlefield 2142 drove a stake through the series’ heart. Would Enemy Territory be that game?
Set in the years prior to the events of Quake II, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars drops players in to the heart of a war-torn Earth in the year 2060. The Strogg, cyborg soldiers of the evil Macron, have invaded Earth in the hopes of harvesting humanity for spare parts and protein food for their cyborg army. The Global Defense Force (GDF) is fighting for their very lives against the Strogg invasion.

Originally a cell phone game, Orcs & Elves is a fantasy RPG created by id Software and was voted Mobile Game of the year at AIAS . Now, Electronic Arts is releasing it for the Nintendo DS and it will be hitting stores on November 13th. Developed by Fountainhead Entertainment, Orcs & Elves will be making its Nintendo DS debut with more foes, levels, and weapons.
With a storyline sprawling twelve levels, the game is basically a dungeon-crawling experience set amidst a mountainous Dwarven fortress, the player will explore for ancient treasure, weapons and fight enemies as young half-elf. You will find thirteen mystical weapons including magical swords, deadly crossbows, and a war hammer as you fight through waves of legendary beasts each with their own tactics and powers. Along the way, players will also befriend characters, such as an ancient dragon, to help fight your way into the deepest reaches of the fortress on a quest to expel the evil from the mountain’s core.
Using the DS touch screen to solve puzzles, overcome deadly traps and unleash magical powers with an arsenal of arcane items like magic potions, enchanted rings, dragon scale armor and an enchanted wand; Orcs & Elves sounds like a fun diversion from most of the DS titles released to date.
You can download the developer’s diary by clicking on the badge below the new set of screenshots.
