Collen Campbell, editor of Next Gen, has an insightful blog on the effect of violence on game development. Capcom warns investors that violent scenes and depictions are a business risk as they may insight a smear campaign that could effect business performance. This risk is sighted right along with more typical risks associated with game development such as rising development costs.
Capcom, producer of the Resident Evil series and Dead Rising, has so far kept it’s nose clean and avoided the “mass media smear campaigns” that other companies such as Rock Star have come under fire for. Yet it’s interesting to see how public outcry has effected how companies do business.
