Capcom Says the PC Version of DMC4 Has Been “Pirated to Hell and Back”

Capcom has stated that the sales figures for the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 have not been outstanding nor very good because game sales for the title have suffered due to severe piracy issues.
Over on the official Capcom forums, Christian Svensson, the VP of Strategic Panning, stated that the Japanese division has not allowed the title to be distributed digitally:
“I’m not sure about how Capcom in general feels but it’s not doing as well as I would like in the US at retail. It’s such a good version and it really deserves better sales. I know it’s getting pirated to hell and back (it was up on torrents literally the day it shipped). I certainly have pushed for digital distribution on the title but Capcom Japan so far has not allowed it.
For the record all Capcom Entertainment developed titles will be distributed extremely widely via digital channels (not just Steam or Direct2Drive, but more than a dozen partners across more than 100 sites/portals for everything we do). I’ve spent the last year building up that channel and I’m continuing to add partners even in advance of Age of Booty, MotoGP, Neopets, Dark Void and Flock shipping.”
Maybe this will help end their pirating woes in the future, but for the time being, Svensson is trying to convince Japanese executives that digital distribution will only help the company in the long run.
“I have a presentation I’m making shortly that I’m hoping will make that approach something we do with all of our PC content, even those developed in Japan, but no promises. It might not happen.”

The only way to get it legally in brazil for a reasonable price is through steam/etc.
It is sad that I either have to pirate or import it for 3 times the price.
Waiting for steam version right now.
And the PC nerds wonder why more and more developers are going the console route.
Go Marlins!!!!
Reason for crappy sales: It’s a crappy game.
Get over yourselves and stop blaming piracy every time you make a horrible product that doesn’t sell! It’s getting old.
I’ve actually held off on buying the game since I’m waiting for a Steam release. And what the hell is stopping this game? Every other Capcom PC game that has come out has had a DD model.
It’s not selling well because PC gamers aren’t suckers like idiot console gamers. We know a stinker of a game when we see one. As stated above, get over yourselves, the game isn’t that great. It was merely ok for a console game and certainly isn’t great as a PC game…
Yeah I bought DMC4 and I think its a great game and I love how you all state your opinions as facts, probably you just suck when it comes to a high paced game.I mean what makes the game great or crappy because you say so? Wow what arrogance. Also love how nobody brings up the fact that the game came out for the consoles awhile ago and nobody is going to buy a game they already own again.
Yes its because of pirates that game makers are going to the consoles. It couldn’t be because you console people pay for everything that you shouldn’t have to in the first place. Hell would not surprise me if you guys started paying for patches to fix the games. Also that Microsoft pays millions to have custom console crap?
lol
capcom fails
I bet Fallout 3 will have very good sales on all platforms. Piracy doesn’t have anything to do with it. DMC4 is just a console game and not a great one at that, its pretty awkward on anything but a controller imo.
DMC4 sucks for anyone who just doesn’t like mindless beat/shoot ‘em ups. DMC is pretty much the epitome of the no-brainer, kill everything on screen genre. That can be fun for awhile, but it’s let down by bad camera angles, repetitive gameplay (you can only kill the same ice monsters so many times in so many ways, most of which involve button/key mashing).
Really, considering its reception from anyone with a brain to notice its gameplay qualities – or lack thereof – I’m not surprised it hasn’t sold well for the PC. It’s just not on the same level as most of its competition and like, say, Street Fighter, it just isn’t the sort of game for the PC.
“I love how you all state your opinions as facts”
Well it’s Capcom’s OPINION that this crappy game is failing because of piracy and not the fact that it’s just a lame ass button masher….
