I stumbled across a  Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl Blu-Ray giveaway on digital entertainment news. Blu-Ray discs aren’t cheap these days, so maybe trying to win them in giveaways is your best option. I have my douts as to whether Blu-Ray will be able to beat out HD-DVD in the end, so it’s still a tough thing to go out and spend over 30 dollars on a movie disc that could be obsolete in a couple years. “Free” is definitely a risk I’m willing to take.

Send in your name, age and address to contest@digitalentertainmentnews.com by June 15 with “avast” in the subject line. This giveaway is open to residents of the United States and Canada ages 13 and older. Employees of Digital Entertainment News, Buena Vista Home Entertainment and their agents and subsidiaries are not eligible.

I would rather spend $30 on a good movie I will watch 5 years from now then $60 on a game that is obsolete in 1 month. Besides, there are $14-20 sales on Fry’s and Amazon all the time. Why would someone who dropped $600 on a console be too cheap to buy the media to play on it? If you can’t afford it…don’t buy it.

I agree… blu-ray discs are too expensive to manufacture… specially the 50Gb one. I thought about buying a PS3, but it was too expensive and it had no games I want right now. I’ll stay with my Xbox360 for now.

And if I had to chose one Hidef format to go with, it would be HD DVD. It will last longer. Blu-ray looks like the UMD for the PSP. Who wants that?
