Call of Duty 4 PS3 Being Updated, Online Issues Ironed Out

Original Story: PlayStation 3 owners have been encountering several problems with Call of Duty 4 when attempting to play online – primarily slow matchmaking and the “Downloading Game Settings” error that plagued the CoD4 beta on Xbox 360.
Yesterday, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, fourzerotwo, posted about an update for the game which was in the works and promised to fix these problems.
The server team has been working on this all weekend, and will be working through the night. They’re upgrading all server hardware as well as dedicated an individual database to each functionality to improve performance and handle the traffic hitting the servers. (i.e. Database for Matchmaking, Database for Leaderboards, etc.)
This will greatly improve the speed and stability for matchmaking for players.
During this upgrade you may still receive the ‘Downloading Game Settings’ message, but it is temporary, in the sense of just let it download and you will eventually drop into a lobby and play just fine.
Remember, this is just short term, eventually once everything is upgraded you won’t be receiving Downloading Game Settings at all.
However, if you do, just wait it out and you will be dropped into a lobby.
And earlier today fourzerotwo made another post stating that some major improvements were rolled out late last night, and that gamers shouldn’t be running into the problems anymore.
It’s disappointing to see this problem which was readily apparent in the beta not get fixed in the PlayStation 3 version of the game, but at least the problem didn’t take long to be attended to.

I have been having the same problem. Today when I logged on my level wasn’t right. I was a 40, but it said 39. I just thought that it was a main screen issue, because in the barracks on the leaderboards it still said I was 40 and the stats were right. So I played for a while and got to 41 and unlocked some stuff.
I logged off and when I got on later tonight, my level was back at 39, on the main screen and on the leaderboards. I was so pissed off. I played and got back my unlockables and logged off. I got back on after to see if it happened again and it was the same damn thing but the leaderboards were still right. So I logged off and let it be for tonight.
Please fix this problem because 150 headshots are really hard to get and when you get it and keep loosing it over and over you want to flip a bitch. So fix it asap!
yeah so until its fixed Ill just put in my uncharted: D’s fortune, which should also only be 30-40 bucks because theres is neither co-op or online. phooey on these “new age” games that dont even offer online or co-op…. maybe ill put socom 2 back in,,,
It is very discouraging to have these problems with the ranking system. You would think that all the ranking problems that occur and that have occured with many online games, that they would be more prepared for this. I do enjoy cod4 and think they will fix the problem. However, the chances of us getting back anything we have lost is slim to none. Look, i want the game to work right like everyone else but fact of the matter is………..they have your money. All the bitching in the world wont do no good. Im speaking from experience ive had on other games. Guess ill just stop playing untill i hear that the problems are fixed. Rank means everything. Its our human competitive nature. Thats what keeps us wasting hours on end to get a higher rank that hopefully will stay, when we no it wont. whole the shit..i thought i was the only one with the ranking problem but never mine…i am currently ranked 39 and everytime turn off my ps3 i start over at 39..is it not saving or wtf is going on..they better fix this shit or i just have to talk to president bush

I seem to be sometimes up to 3 seconds behind the game I’m playing in. I sneak up behind somone, shoot them in the head, only to see them stand up and waste me. And then the replay feature shows I was shooting at thin air.
All my other games work fine, this game is great when it works but otherwise ist just too frustrating.
Get it sorted. Looking at this forum I see people have been experiencing this problem for age, yet there seems to be no comment from the infinity ward about fixing it. At the moment, definitely not a game I would recommend.
They better fix this shit soon, otherwise i have to spend time with the wife!!!

I bought my PS3 with COD 3 days ago. Its the first time Ive tried online gaming and it started out well, but Im having the same problem as everyone here with the rank re-set….so I come online and find this forum to see if there’s any solutions.
Guys….there obviously isn’t… so instead of continuously whining, bitching and moaning about it, take a couple of breaths and chill out. They will fix it! In the meantime, go release some of your gamer-rage! I worked at EB Games long enough to know that most of you are probably slightly overweight, socially awkward gaming freaks who only venture into the sunlight to buy a new game or harrass a sales person about why they are paying so much for a game…if you can’t afford it – don’t buy it. If you don’t like it – take it back!

I went from rank 43 to 10 a few days back. I effectively had two ranks, the real one and the old one that kept popping up. I logged in and got the old one, played a game, logged out and in again and i got my old rank. This then stopped and i permanently went down to rank 10. Worked my way up to 38 and it won’t let me get past 37 now every time i log off.
I would not mind as much, games have their problenms but surely Activision foresaw this? Afterall it happened with CoD3 for PS3 and CoD4 had a lot more hype than CoD3. I should be in prestige mode by now….
HeLiBel the fact is we brought the game and it was good. Why buy snother game when it will not be as good online when CoD4 actually works. Buying a new game would ust be a waste. And you don’t have to be a gaming nerd to be pissed off by this, we have a right to complain.

for everyone tht keeps complaining tht the name of their weopon classes keep dissapering, all tht u have to do to get the names of the weople classes back is too start at the multiplayer menue(the one tht has the choices to start a game, barracks,creat class etc..)start there then go back to the previous screen (the one tht has the choices of online play, LAN play, return to single player) then just go bak online by hitting the multiplayer online button, hope this helps some of u. Im having the same ranking up problems so yeah this is all bs and for the people who said its no big deal not ranking up, it is thats the point of playing online against other people not to mention getting the better weapons and other cool new crap right. I think ill just stick to games that have it down like ghost recon and rainbow six vegas for now i mean the game is bad ass when it works so until then good luck
I’ve have exactly the same rank, title and connection time problems. i have full connection in the uk. All this talk about us being angry and upset is completely justified. We bought the game and you think you would get what you pay for. Otherwise it’s called being cheated via deception. Whoever created this is spending too long fixing it. i’m having the same problem, im so fucking pissed of. I got to rank 22 went of to go on single player went back on, back to 11 then got to 17 went off and went back on and i was 11 again, GET IT FIXED!!!!
