Call of Duty 4 PS3 Being Updated, Online Issues Ironed Out

Original Story: PlayStation 3 owners have been encountering several problems with Call of Duty 4 when attempting to play online – primarily slow matchmaking and the “Downloading Game Settings” error that plagued the CoD4 beta on Xbox 360.
Yesterday, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, fourzerotwo, posted about an update for the game which was in the works and promised to fix these problems.
The server team has been working on this all weekend, and will be working through the night. They’re upgrading all server hardware as well as dedicated an individual database to each functionality to improve performance and handle the traffic hitting the servers. (i.e. Database for Matchmaking, Database for Leaderboards, etc.)
This will greatly improve the speed and stability for matchmaking for players.
During this upgrade you may still receive the ‘Downloading Game Settings’ message, but it is temporary, in the sense of just let it download and you will eventually drop into a lobby and play just fine.
Remember, this is just short term, eventually once everything is upgraded you won’t be receiving Downloading Game Settings at all.
However, if you do, just wait it out and you will be dropped into a lobby.
And earlier today fourzerotwo made another post stating that some major improvements were rolled out late last night, and that gamers shouldn’t be running into the problems anymore.
It’s disappointing to see this problem which was readily apparent in the beta not get fixed in the PlayStation 3 version of the game, but at least the problem didn’t take long to be attended to.
has anyone had problems with the split screen crashing during the loading screen…………
I noticed it allways does this 100% when the downloading game settings message has not finished….
So if u wish to test it your self then next time it takes ages for the download messege to dissappear go to split screen and start any game and watch the baby carsh “hard lock too”
Has anyone been encountering the problem of loosing all there ranking’s when they leave the online and go back to single player? I got up to lance corporal last night and when i returned to it in a few hours after single player i was back to private first class 2
I was all the way up to corporal 1 and just got kicked back to Private First Class 1 and I am pissed!

Well if thats it fixed I cant notice any difference. I have just played this tonight and got so sick of trying to get a stable game ended up going back to resistance. Im from the UK and we have laws in the european union against the sale of shoddy goods, we ca take this back to the shop and demand our money back which i will do if this is not sorted out. this is the worst onlie game yet.
Fantastic game WHEN IT IS WORKING as with Joe, it is not fixed. Me and my clan and about 15 of my friends spent ages trying to get on last night (hours!!) and only managed three games.
What I want to know is why is it SO HARD to find out information about what’s going on nobody is discussing it apparently. Or is it been suppressed? All I want to know is what is going on when & will it be fixed
COD4 is realy annoying me, i can’t get in2 any games when im on my own. When i’m in a party me & my clan gt a game straight away. It’s amazing when it works……

There isnt an update for it, itl just be a server upgrade, and i think its happened. But you wont have to download an update, it says that in some of the statements.
does anyone know how to add friends while in game on cod4(ps3) and also how to join/create a clan? i cant seem to figure it out…thanks…chris
This game is giving me jip, all I want to do is give it a good hard gaiming session on line!!!! I have more chance of getting my wife back than getting connected!!
THE RANK PROBLEM
I now have 4 ranks on 4 different servers – there is no stat tracking across the servers, your rank if not lost you are just logging onto i different server to where your rank is held. eg my ranks -
Server A = 3
B = 5
C = 7
D = 16
I log on to server A as rank 3 play one game then log off, this puts me onto server B, i repeat the process till i get to server D holding my real rank. nb you must play a full online game before logging off to move to the next server!
This issue is being looked into and they will be putting in a master stat server, the problem is that all ranks may be set back to 0 when this happens.

yeh jamie hook is right, if you go online and your not on ur best rank, get into a game nd quit it straight away u dnt hv to play, then log out nd go back to main menu screen, then log back in, repeat this process until you get to the level which u want 100% works, but we shoudlnt even hv to do this

!!((1))my current rank is 32.. when i get promoted im still 32 and get the same weapons i have ranked up about 4 times and im still a captain which is level 32.. and my xp bar is off me screen it says -4039 what the fuck is wrong with it and it says ive unlocked acog scope and bandoiller perk but ye there locked
!!((2))it takes about hallf an hour to join a game!!!! and when i name a custom class >>exaple elite pack>> id get off online go back on and the names and xp points are lost….and my clan name
i have it on ps3.. and its pissn me off big time…the game is amazing when it works but and the problem was never fixed thats a smokescreen iff ya ask me to keep us waiting

i am rank 25, but when i log in must of the time i’m rank 13 !
So by reading this arcticle i understand that you have to enter a match (as wrong rank)then quit. Go to the main menue then go back online.
If it doesn’t work repeat the process !
Is that right becuase i don’t won’t not to work and then be back at rank 13 permenantly.

hey i got to level 21 online for cod 4 and every time i get xp it go’s beyond the bar and says minus, right now im at – 1542xp how can i fix this, ive tryed deleting my profile and doesnt fix it can someone help me
my rank goes from what ever i am to a 13 when i log back on and then a 9. the thing i need to do is get in a free for all then quit right away, but i need to do it two times, and it takes 40 minutes to get into one game so most of my time on the game is trying to get my rank back!
I’ like to join Joe and say that this game is going back to the shop as per my EU rights!!!! I played about 5 days decent gaming online now it seems the servers somewhere (nobody in infinity wards forums seems to care) are just crap! I have brought a brand new ultra quick router. Just cos I wanted it and this should not happen. Hey presto Fifa is quicker than an oiled whippit but COD4 sits there downloading games settings and chirping like a deranged bird. MY PATIENCE IS BEING TESTED…. anyone here found anything out yet?

I am having the smae problems with COD4. I read that it would be easy to complete, did it in four hours and was really looking forward to the online play but,,,oh no.,,,it doesnt bloody work!! Admitedly my router is not the best but resistance works fine, I am tempted to take it back to the whole where I bought the ‘GAME’!
i have had the ranking issue also, been dealing with it since day one. almost tired of wasting my time playing

Where is it you are actually from? OK this fix worked for me and is posted somewhere else. I am not a massive forum user but I did read this and tried and tested working. Stayed in 2 rooms last night was the top scorer and managed to play at least 5 games in each, then it being midnight and being a fair chap I thought I’d go offline before it breaks again and annoys me. Hoping tonight this works again… TRY THIS:
Create LAN game all but one crash on my PS3 think its backlot I play. Then sit in the LAN game a while and then come out, do some shooting and blow things up come out of the game and back to online play. It should drop you straight through the DOWNLOADING GAME SETTINGS (This message is the most annoying!) and into the find game screen. then find a game and play!

yo ive had the same problem with my rank and it did work when i tried getting into a game and then logging off and back on but now all of a sudden it doesnt wrk anymore. i was rank 35 and now im at 7. the process does not work for me anymore.even if i play a whole game. so now im stuck at 7.
I have the same ranking problem. I too would go online, get into a game, back out to the beginning, then go back online to get my higher rank. My 2 ranks are lv10 and my highest rank is 14 above lv55. I took the Prestige challenge and gave up all my guns and challenges for the Eagle badge only to start back at lv10. Discouraging but still just a game. I don’t know if I will spend as much time the second time for the challenges. I should have listened to my friends and went with the XBox360. It is a great game though!
I was rank 42 now im back from the beginning. SO much for that 15 hours of playin online. I’m so pissed off right now.
So, what, you didn’t enjoy the 15 hours you played? Playing more isn’t fun? I don’t get it. Who cares what your rank is? Just go kill people and have fun! What, it’s not fun if you’re not the highest rank? I’m a low rank right now, and getting killed almost at will, but it’s a blast! What an awesome game, and still in it’s infancy. So much death and dismemberment ahead…
u’d think that with all the rank problems (same thing for me) posted all over, infinity ward would at least show some sign that they plan on fixing it…mabe im wrong but i havent seen anything.
Dismemberment… I shot a guy in the head close range with a shotgun and his head stayed there! Dismemberment is not written into thios game! It should be if you got hit by 3 grenades and a machine gun there would not be much left!!!

Oh and Infinity wards silence is strange. Almost like they have seen an apocalyptic ammount of avid gamers all trying to play their game, and they are seeing a meltdown ahead… just a thought
I have tried time and time again to join a PARTY with my friend from the USA i am in the UK and we send each other invites accept them and all we get is “unable to connect to host” and we have tried for about 20 mins sending invies back and forth. (i did manage to get into a party with my friend from the UK however)
Whats going on here and will it get sorted???

I read a couple of weeks ago (when IW released the patch news) that they have submitted the COD4 patch to Sony for testing. I believe it’s out of their hands now so they can’t give us an estimate.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the PC patch has already been released, no?

No, no idea but i am having the same problem. i can’t connect to my USA friends, however yesterday i connected(got in my party) to another friend in the usa that lives in the same area pittsburgh. so i duno what the problem is but i have been able to connect to one foreign friend but not the rest of them(all live in USA).

Also Wheres the buddy list (like resistance) i don’t card if it is not resistance and it doesn’t have to be like that but i want the online play to have basically all the features RFOM had:
.Buddy list
.Send messages to buddies
.Access to XMB PSN friends
.Send, recieve and veiw messages in XMB PSN friends
.Proper clans (although i don’t understand how COD4 clans work can any one enlighten me please?)
i got to level 50 and as soon as i got level 51 it didn’t give it to me, i just kept getting points and the level bar overflowed can someone help me PPPPLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL thats crazy man overflowing Activison and Infinaty Ward really cocked the online play which is almost why i bought the game to get more tactical than R:FOM.
But it seems i was too hasty in buying the game when it was released maybe i should of waited half a year to buy it when they have pulled there finger out.
Lesson learned “Activison/infinaty ward finsh there games after the release date” ?
yeah i got the problemo too, i got upto level 43 and got a couple of difficult achievments when i logged back in to carry on with the achievments id noticed that they had GONE and i was back at my previous level of 42.
The worst thing is when i go to carry on with online mode now i can level up fine but by the time i log back in its FORGOT everything i did so i start at 42 no matter what i did the time before if any1 can HELP it will be much appreciated.
I levelled up to prestige mode but every time in it when i reach Lv4 it resets to Lv55 tried playing LAN game then returning to online mode still the same even tried Free-for-All repeating this process many times and its always reverts to the same my head is fucking wrecked feel like throwing this game in the trash.
Activision/Infinaty Award feedback into this matter was to try the same process as above what a joke. They are a bunch of twats.
My score/levels won’t save. After I exit the game and renter, I am back to my previous levels.
From reading the posts above, its a common issue, is there anything I could do?

I dont think the problem will be permenant i remember the last time i logged out it said connection interupted maybe that is something to do with it ? whatever the problem with not saving scores i want it sorting out
Same problem with my rankings not saving. Like everybody else, I log out and reenter and all that i just previously achieved was lost. Problem just started last night. Is there anythin i can do?
