Call of Duty 4 `Bog Rescue` Gameplay Video

Finally! A Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gameplay video! Infinity Ward released a new Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare video today which shows even though this Call Of Duty game is in a new “era”, the game still holds true to it’s Call of Duty roots.

The gameplay video does an excellent job of showing how hectic the levels still are and also show some amazing visuals such as smoke effects off in the distance, flares that illuminate the immediate area, and the use of night vision equipment. And it’s all currently in Pre-Alpha, so I could imagine what amazing visuals Call of Duty 4 will be capable of when it’s complete.

I just have to say one thing. If we pc gamers get shafted on this one and there is no pc port of this game, I’m going straight over to Infinity Ward and bitch slap everyone there. I’m tiered of seeing these sweet games go to the consoles only to be missused by the fumbling fingers on a slow game pad. Please, someone tell me I’m not the only one that feels this way.

  2. Anon says:

    Meh..

When did games stop being creative?

  3. ipx says:

I totally agree with you, Jose Perez.

  4. Bozy Allen says:

    I Agree with Mr. Perez.

  5. keithuk says:

    @Jose

Who says this isnt going to the PC platform? I’m assuming your referring to Call of Duty 3 but that had nothing to do with Infinity Ward, that was Activition, totally different setup.

  6. Morgan says:

LOL, PC lover might cry. Fumbling fingers eh? Sorry you can’t use dual analog, I know it’s hard for monkey brains to comprehend.

Get real. Do you know how many PC games never port to console? Be happy with what you get, and don’t criticize a control style which is far better at maintaining a level of difficulty in video GAMES. It’s better to be able to walk and run on the same stick, to move both your feet and your pointer in 360 degrees at the same time. I’m so sick of hearing people say that dual analog is inferior just because they can’t use it. It’s HARDER not INFERIOR. The challenge means that it takes a true gamer to master it.

  7. 12Bravo says:

In response to Jose, I would much rather pop this one in to my 360 and play right away and fumble with my game pad. Then have to worry about am I gonna have enough ram and a video card that can play this above 12fps. PC gaming is dying out due to the simplicity of the consoles, sorry but it’s just the way it is. PC has what? Warcraft? Pfft….

  8. django says:

It’s actually been announced for the PC!

  9. Bryant says:

This is target render footage. This isn’t actual gameplay.

In other words, this was all pre-rendered and is the final goal for the game’s graphics. This is what CoD4 should look like… but I don’t think it’ll be this good.

  10. PCP777 says:

    @ Jose

Agreed, this better come out on PC, I heard it was…..

  11. Farooq Azam says:

WOW! this is an amazing video. Really enjoyed it. I am gonna get Call of Duty 4 very soon. I watched its trailer, but never watched a gameplay video of it. Such a nice video!

  12. Paulo says:

Console FPS games are a joke. The dual analog just doesn’t compare to a mouse / keyboard combo in terms of precision / accuracy… Console FPS games will never be as fun to play, and you’ll never be truly immersed in the game like you could a PC FPS, where you truly feel part of the action, not just sitting on a couch holding a childish controller…

Console racing games / side scrolling / fighting games, however, will always kill their PC equivalents.

    But hey I’m a diehard PC fan… so I guess I’m biased a bit.

  13. Devilfrog says:

It is Out-freakin-standing that COD4 will be available in PC! Consoles games are too limited, you are stuck with a controller that has very little customization, you can’t upgrade ram, video cards or anything else for that matter so you are stuck with it and have to buy the new system each year to keep up. PCs have much more potential and are more powerful. PC gaming is dying out, to say otherwise shows who’s uninformed.

Yeah Shadowrun for 360 is boring isn’t it? You so full of shit. Shadowrun on 360 is one of the funnest games I have ever played. You know nothing.

Yeah Shadowrun for 360 is boring isn’t it? Your so full of shit. Shadowrun on 360 is one of the funnest games I have ever played. You know nothing.

  16. Anxiety says:

    @Chase….

I bet he knows that “funnest” isn’t a word.

  17. Jeff says:

Hahaha people who argue over which console/PC is better are such dumbasses. You know instead of trying to make your console or PC look better than the others you could shut your mouth and just play your console of choice. We all have our own opionions about the game systems out there, but we don’t really need to hear them. :P

  18. Foomanshoe says:

PC > * for all fps….there is really no reason to argue…

  19. Justin says:

    @ Morgan

Fps on the computer forces you to use twitch reaction. Fps on the consoles are slow compared to the PC. Gears of War is just roll, roll, roll some more, and maybe a little bit more, then chainsaw

    @ Chase

  20. I’m starting to think this whole modern combat thing for COD4 might turn out okay.

Does Wii not come into this then?

Yeah, I know the graphics aren’t anywhere near there, but it certainly shows a lot of potential for wii fps. Don’t bother using Red STeel as an example to counter, eveyone knows that didn’t exactly come out perfect and don’t say “CoD3 wii kiDdeeZZ gRafx” either, we know the Wii isn’t that powerful. My point is, the wii pointer on it’s own shows a huge leap forward (potentially) for console FPS if they can get the control scheme right, and performing and carrying out gestures/1:1 actions is far more immersive than fiddling around for 10 minutes with your setup, as others noted spending ££££’s (or $$$$’s) on the latest equipment for one game you’ll get bored of in a week, and feeling around uncomfortably for G just to be able to wipe your own mouth. Once controls, along with the gesture/1:1 motion controls are sorted, it’ll be a huge step closer, and with future consoles when they decide to put some of those millions back into making the graphics up to scratch, PC begins to look pretty old hat in comparison. Times have changed, the PC hasn’t, and it just can’t compete with a dedicated games machine meant for games, designed for games and doesn’t rely on hugely inflated subscription charges via RTS games.

  22. ryan says:

argggg, aimed at paulo (sorry morgan) and few spelling mistakes, why did I try and make a reply at 2.50 in the morning

  23. Khalen says:

Bryant, that was all actual in game footage captured directly from a playthrough on the XBox 360 at 60hz.

  24. SAHChandler says:

Anyone know which engine they are using?
I just hope the PC version supports DX 10.
And to the dude who said “PC Gaming is dying” They’ve been saying that for years. And we come back everytime.

    Crysis? Hell Yeah.

  25. SAHChandler says:

Anyone know what engine they are using?

  26. tim says:

A true gamer should master the game, not the controls. I have never heard anyone say “that game was so hard! i fumbled with the controller for hours just to learn how to move! i’m a real gamer!”

  27. brad says:

    @morgan

My best friend, like me, is a hardcore gamer. He is lucky enough to have a nice PC and a 360. He always tells me that as much as he loves his 360, there is no comparison in gameplay, enjoyment, and skill when it comes to the PC’s dominance over the 360 in an FPS (CoD2 for instance).

–I bought a couple Xbox controller converters from Europe that allow me to plug a keyboard and mouse (usb) into the xbox. When all our friends came over to play CoD2 (which they played just as much as me), I destroyed them all and there was absolutely no comparison.

    CoD4 = PC…a must

  28. Ice says:

“The challenge means that it takes a true gamer to master it.” Says morgan.

This statement just isnt true, a true gamer cares about their gaming enough to learn how to build their own machine to truly play the game the way they want, not trust someone else to. Furthermore, the challenge means it takes a True lamor who will sit around and get used to the controls for over a day before they get good enough to even hold their own, let alone actually start enjoying the game. With a PC, i can set the controls to whatever i want, and if i want, i can even buy a controller like your xbox 360 has and play any game with it, or a joystick, or a gaming pad. If you know anything about building computers, the xbox 360 is a childs toy in comparison.

  29. WE869 says:

I heard it will be out on ps3 first…anyone hear this?

  30. fdsfdsf says:

So who cares if you play pc or xbox360 computer is cool yeah for battle field and counter thats where it ends warcraft is seriously no life and yea fps looked gay on xbox but this is xbox360 so shut up. oh yea and shut up about the controllers its bs i could kick your mouse welding ass with a gamepad. and i like my mouse to.

  31. Jose Perez says:

Wow… I guess I really opened the can of worms with my first post, lol. I guess the first thing I need to say is… SWEET. Thanks for letting me know that this game is going to be on the PC. Can’t wait .

I think I want to clear up a lot of confusion about pc gamers and console gamers. There really is a big difference between the two. Not only are ALL GAMES created on the pc or mac platform, they also always look better on a pc. You will never surpass the visual quality of a game on the pc. They were created there and will always look better there.

A lot of games that are made for consoles are designed around a fixed hardware scheme. They have to deliver a certain frame rate so that anyone can enjoy the gameplay. That means that they dumb down the graphics to accommodate for better speed. On the pc, depending on what hardware setup you have you can change the quality settings. But at full settings, the pc blows the console away visually.

Also, the console games must be enjoyable for a large spectrum of people. So you have different difficulty settings. Easy, Medium and Hard. Maybe sometimes there will be an extra hard setting, but still it makes me giggle inside. Lets just say that a random FPS on a console has an extra hard setting. If you were to put that game on a pc and give the player a keyboard and mouse it would still be way to easy to beat. Console difficulties are so bland because the dual stick.. Even though it is the only feasible way to play a FPS on a console, it still sucks and is not in any range of accuracy compared to the keyboard and mouse. (This brings up another point I made a while back on another post. The only console controller that even came close to being a superior FPS controller was the Nintendo 64 controller. It had a center joystick for head movement and 4 C-buttons for directional movement, go figure… just like WASD or the arrow keys on a keyboard. A Z-trigger in the back and two easily accessible buttons beside the C-buttons for weapon switch and reload. Can I get an Amen on that  )

I bet all you people that are getting pissed right now because I’m bashing console controllers are saying to yourself, I could beat him, I’m so freaking good with the controller… I bet all of you play with auto aim and assisted aiming on. Yea, that does make it a bit easier now doesn’t it? lol. You rarely see an auto aim or aiming assistant check box on a pc game. If there was though, it was because it was a game designed for console first and then ported to pc, and they never took it out because they left in the ability to use a controller.

Someone made a comment that pc only has Warcraft. lol, time to broaden your horizons. I only play on pc and I have never even played Warcraft. All in all this is a great topic to be discussed. But all you console gamers have a special little surprise coming in the future. Either all consoles are going to start packing there boxes with keyboard and mouse capabilities or they are soon going to not even exist. Mock my words, but you will all see what I say is true.

  32. apricots says:

Jose, that’s possibly the best mini-speech I’ve ever read
And I wholeheartedly agree (even with the 64 controller part )

Here’s my list of why PC gaming will always be better than consoles (at least with FPS)

    A) Consoles play catchup. There’s no such thing as “nextgen” consoles. When a new console comes out, it’s basically the best they can do with what’s available at the time. The 360 (for example) made a pretty beefed up system for the price. What happens alittle over a year later? DX10 cards are released, which will soon leave DX9 far behind. No upgrade ability, so the Xbox fans will have to wait for the “nextgen” Xbox to come out to utilize the feature.

    B) Controllers have dual analog. Most console gamers think of this as a plus (I used to when I exclusively played console and despised PCs). There are… if you play racers or games like Ultimate Alliance. But they don’t have as good of functionality as a mouse/keyboard when playing shooters. Not only is the precision not up to par, but the speed is my biggest gripe. When I played CoD2 rifles-only and saw someone pop up at the edge of my screen, normally I could twitch and snag him with one fluid shot before he even saw me. With a console, you’re limited by the “sensitivity” of the joysticks. You would have to essentially wait for the cursor to get to your enemy. Coupled with the precision problem, a controller is the worst way to play a shooter. We are not meant to move in Etch-a-Sketch fashion. Why do you think they have auto-aim?
If you don’t believe me, check out the COD4 Bog video again at the top. The guy couldn’t hit the friggin moon.

    C) Consoles are limited. Like Jose stated: Do you wonder why console games run smoothly? Hardware-wise, they aren’t much better (if better at all) than a PC. So what makes the difference? The truth is the companies who make the games push back the quality of console games to meet standard requirements (such as the 60FPS restriction). PCs don’t have these restrictions.

And I’m sorry, but I can’t help but respond to Chase’s adoration for Shadowrun that he posted a while back. This game is the first (I believe) to allow 360 and PC gamers to play eachother cross-platform. Do you know why PC gamers don’t utterly annihilate the 360 guys in that game? It’s solely because Microsoft knows the handicap that the controller has compared to a mouse/keyboard. They FORCE PC players to use autoaim while playing multiplayer, effectively hindering the accuracy of the mouse. They had to downplay the way we play shooters so that there isn’t an advantage over the console guys.
(On a side note, they also restricted PC binds on the keyboard to the same amount the 360 controller would have.)

Well, this is getting too long, and I’m sure someone’s gonna bitch about this or Jose’s post. So I’ll just respond to those later

  33. younerds says:

you need to get a life and stop talkin bout your video game controllers

  34. bradley says:

    @ younerds

:] you obviously took the time to read that for yourself otherwise you wouldnt know what we were talking about…nerd

  35. @ Jose…
    Right on Brother~~!!!! lol.

All you PC haters are just jealous that you cant afford one. I play a few console games (mostly Nintendo made) but PC is wayyyy better than any console they will ever release. They now make controllers for the pc with that analog BS so how is the console better for that?

    @ Ice
I totally agree with your statement about building your own shit. Not only is it fun, but you know what your getting.

 I’m a girl and ill kick ur ass at ANY game!!!

  36. Jose Perez says:

Thanks apricots. Thanks for hitting the points that I missed and reaffirming the ones that I did talk about.

As for younerds, its sad that people like you (the ones that are not technically advanced enough to use a computer and to slow to get a console to turn on correctly) have to post these short little comments with no structure and impact on anything except for making yourself look like a complete ass. Good job… mission complete. I suggest that anyone else that posts a message like his prepare to look like a fool. Cheers and have a good night; I’m out.

  37. Jose Perez says:

She’s right. She kicks my ass in BF2 all the time. Ouch, I can’t feel my right butt cheek

  38. Daniel says:

I would have to say after reading all of the comments that I hope you all realize Call of Duty 4 is going to be an awesome game. Agreed?

  39. apricots says:

    @Daniel
I’m not quite sure about the perks system of the game yet, but yes, CoD4 will be utter sweetness.

  40. John Smith says:

Doesn’t Chase realise that Shadowrun is basically Counter Strke Source with worse weapons and magic.

Also i never found i was hindered by W,S,A,D on the PC for foot movement all you really need for shooters is strafe and backwards forwards.

  41. too funny says:

Why do people think that games are gonna look better on pc? Consoles are pc’s without mouse and key board. They both have graphics cards and ram just like a pc they opperate identically and games can obviously look good with less (Halo 1 with a 700 mhz processor and crap for ram). And games are being tailored more for consoles these days and ported to computer so pc people don’t bitch. Half life is coming to console with portal and team fortress, Bio shock (system shocks predissesor) isn’t just pc. Some games like command and conquer should never be on a console. As to Halo shouldnt have never gone to pc. Simply put its gay and just to make money. I prefer a conroller because twitchy movements dont get you kills they often get you killed, and I feel are very smooth in movement. Pc’s will always have games and consoles will to just pc users will have to purchase $200 dollars in ram per stick when 2 gig sticks release and $500 in graphics cards or more and consoles will be $4-600. So in the end we all pay just consoles not so much.

  42. too funny says:

Perez your right about the N64 control setup with the whole w,s,a,d. But is where your kind hypicritical is that its a controller just reversed and the w,s,a,d is being sat on your bitch ass LOL! keyboard keys. Im just givin you a hard time and —> Your too funny. I love pc biased people. And what else is funny is when people say one console is better than another when they are soo similar.

  43. brad says:

    @too funny

you have no idea what you were talking about and that was obvious in that probably no one else will understand it either as your comment [9:14] got less and less understandable

  44. Jose Perez says:

Yeah… I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that thought “too funny’s” comments were a little hard too read and understand. I was going to reply to that sooner but it looks like brad beat me too it.

This just cracked me up because it made absolutely no sense at all.
And I quote “But is where your kind hypicritical is that its a controller just reversed and the w,s,a,d is being sat on your bitch ass LOL!”

Please tell me I’m not the only person that finds that completely mangled and deformed sentence f***ing hilarious.

  45. apricots says:

I think it is well structured and rather coherent

  46. Fagbag says:

    @ Evil punk girl

I bet you’re fat… and ugly, and have no friends… only online friends, they only like you because you’re a chick…

  47. Jose Perez says:

    @Fagbag

lol… you would think that, but your dead wrong in this case buddy.

  48. too funny says:

Perez you forgot the end of it. It’s the best part “But is where your kind of hypicritical is that its a controller just reversed and the w,s,a,d is being sat on your bitch ass LOL! keyboard keys.” You know im right and i’m sorry I put a bunch of things together in one post. It’s because there are a few things that I was answering from other peoples posts including yours. BUT the one thing you didn’t understand which is TOO FUNNY lol. Is pretend your face has a W on your forehead, S on your chin, A on your right cheek, and D on your left and a big hairy ass is sitting on your face thats the joy stick and when the ass leans left its pressing D, but ok don’t lose me here when it rocks from left to down it moves from D to D+S until its at S just like a joystick/joypad. You see it? not the hairy ass but the joystick.

  49. too funny says:

TOO FUNNY
