Brett Ratner Looking Towards Video Game Movies?

Does the name “Brett Ratner” sound familiar? It should: he’s the guy responsible for the Rush Hour trilogy and X-Men: The Last Stand. But, little known to most people, he’s also the guy responsible for the recent appearances of Guitar Hero in such places as American Idol TV spots and Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” music video (the horror, the horror). That’s because Ratner is also the head a Brett Ratner Brands, an marketing group that is trying to merge their client’s — at this time, only Activision — products with pop culture. Besides that, Ratner is apparently looking to fuse video games with his main work as a filmmaker:
“The games business is much more exciting than the movie business right now,” Ratner said. “I will be doing movies that come from videogames,” adding that he’ll now have “access to the Activision brain” and the people who create its games.
Yay, just what we need: another so-so director looking to make a video game movie. Look for “Guiter Hero: The Movie” to show up in theaters eventually, I guess.
