I think we are all missing a huge point here. Think about what will happen later on down the road, 6-8 years from now.

As Microsoft focuses less on gaming, they lose the only differentiating factor against Linux and MacOS. Linux is getting easier to use out of the box everyday. If you take a look at any recent distro, you see that the process of installing, updating, and using software is very streamlined now. Debian based distros include a solid driver base, making the OS install quick and painless. If not for gaming, what would make a new (basic) user prefer Windows over Linux? Web browsing, movies, music, porn, online chat, and office applications all are available on Linux.

MacOS is... well, still targeted for people who can't be bothered to use software more complex than iTunes and a web browser. The people that go for Apple products usually follow their herd instincts. For example, I assume most computer illiterate people get Windows because it is what Dell or HP sells their systems with. They don't really care what features an operating system has, they just want whatever everyone else is using. It isn't necessarily a bad instinct, because if we researched the fine details of every decision we make, we would waste more time looking than doing. So 6 years down the road, these consumers are going to buy a new computer, and they see their friends using non-Microsoft systems. Wouldn't that make them more likely to get a non-Microsoft OS with their new computer? Then what happens when the next buying cycle comes around? More people are exposed to alternatives, and more switchers are born.

I forsee big troubles for Microsoft's cash cow if gaming loses ground on Windows.

110% agree with blizzard (And Valve)... MS had been putting the Tools PC game Dev's use on the back burner and delivering a 1/2 baked Vista and poorly optimized dx10 with the only improvement being the depth of field but requiring a new (and badly done) OS. Don't get me wrong i live vista as I am using it right now but honestly the performance to features is just more of an over bloated then anything useful. Not to mention MS made the xbox 1 on buying out PC games and making them exclusive as they did with the 360 and gears of war which was originally a PC title that first showed its face at sigraph long before the 360 was even in development. Other things they do such as exclusive rights for royalty trade offs and other incentives to keep their games on 360 only (This means off of the PC and the other systems out there as well). So yes MS is to blame as well as their marketing crew that tries to make people believe that PC Games are dead.

It's about time someone told this to Microsoft, but it's a no-brainer as to whether they'll listen.

Took the words right of my mouth; Blizzard's 100% right. Microsoft is actively working AGAINST PC gaming and the Windows OS in favor of the 360 by putting games out exclusively for the 360, not encouraging PC versions and ports, and not making connectivity and ease of port between the two platforms. They put less than minimum effort into the Games for Windows Live service and totally ruined it; they don't have or want a clue with PC gaming.
