Perpetual Entertainment has announced that BioWare’s Austin studio has licensed online technology from them for an upcoming MMO. The agreement gives BioWare the freedom to use the online platform to deploy, develop, and support its future titles. Perpetual’s online technology has already been used for a number of online games, including the upcoming Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising, to provide a backbone for a game’s development, billing, customer relations, and other services. According to Gordon Walton, co-studio director of BioWare Austin:

“We evaluated numerous technology solutions to serve as the service backbone of our first MMO title and feel Perpetual’s online platform is the best fit. The Perpetual team has years of experience building infrastructure and tools for online games and we are thrilled to be working with them.”

Well, this is the first I’d heard of Bioware making an MMO. But when the developers of Knights of the Old Republic announce an MMO, I start marking the day it comes out as the day I go into a dark cave in the mountains with nothing but a PC and ten-mile ethernet cord for company.

Recon it will be based on any of their current titles? If so im guessing a neverwinter nights MMO perhaps…

  2. Lord Gothmog says:

I doubt it’ll be a D&D MMO. Turbine already has one.. and Infogrames just relicensed the property until 2017. I’d bet on a new IP from Bioware.

  3. Ron says:

I remember a time when there was rampant speculation that Bioware would be the recipient of the Star Wars MMO IP. Now THAT would be sweet.

I’m not saying that’s likely, just that I remember that rumor flying around.

  4. seb says:

I don’t mean to burst that bubble as I would love to see a star wars MMO done bye Bioware instead of SOE but SOE released Star Wars Galaxies back in 2003 and has been killing off player base with bad decisions since.
