TweakGuides

Have you recently purchased Bioshock and wondered if your C2D + Geforce 8800 SLI setup was taking full advantage of the game?

Or could you not resist the craze and are struggling to get the game running acceptable on your 2+ year old PC (that you could swear was still “a badass gaming machine”)?

Assuming the crazy copy protection didn’t cause you to promptly return it, there may be some options you haven’t explored yet. Options are good, no? Enter Koroush Ghazi’s TweakGuides.

The ubiquitous TweakGuides.com, a well known site for popular 3d engine tweaking on PCs (Unreal, Quake, Battlefield, etc…), has promptly put up a Bioshock Tweak Guide for our perusal. The nine page guide covers mostly graphical tweaking, but also covers miscellaneous tweaking that is not normally found in the game. So if you are not afraid of editing text files or modifying your game’s files, this may be the guide for you.

Since the game is using Unreal Engine 3, hardcore tweaking of Bioshock should be as easy as previous Unreal Engine games. So don’t be too shy as to take a look-see. Personally, I find myself fighting with the default mouse acceleration/lag in those engines. I certainly appreciate tweak guides like these. Just remember to play it boy scout and always backup any files you modify.

For those PC owners still running non Shader Model 2.0 cards (pre-Geforce 6000 and pre-Radeon X10k series), unfortunately, this guide still won’t get you up and running. It is still unknown if Bioshock will get support for those lacking SM 3.0 capabilities. It seems a shame too, since fairly advanced 3d engine games like Oblivion and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. support SM 2.0 video cards. Whether it’s a snubbing of the old regime or not, you can always try your luck with the community solution for that. Proof that we PC gamers are masochists when it comes to gaming.
