Splicers are among the many enemies you’ll encounter in BioShock. Once some of the best minds in the world, these people chose to leave the world above and become citizens of Rapture. They then began to morph and adapt their bodies to optimize their wits, the physique, anything they could dream up perfecting, they augmented. Sometimes, to horrible ends.
Some of the Splicers you meet are simply perfection gone awry. Others were designed to be killing machines for the civil war that raged in Rapture. All of them are shells of the people they once were, mutated almost past any recognition of their former humanity.
2K Games really is doing a great job of creating this unknown atmosphere with Bioshock and their Cult of Rapture website. It really feels like I am planning to take a vacation to Rapture in August and I’m hearing all of these creepy stories about the place, and yet I’m either too lazy to get a refund on my tickets or I just like getting the bejeesus scared out of me. Either way, I’m expecting one hell of a ride come August.
