Bethesda VP Pete Hines: ‘Fallout 3 is Better Than Oblivion’

Pete Hines, the vice president of Bethesda, was recently speaking with Videogamer in London recently and happened to mention that he personally felt that Fallout 3 was better than Bethesda best-seller and gamer darling The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
When asked if he felt the review scores for Fallout 3 would surpass the wonderful reviews of Oblivion, Hines seemed pretty confident with the company’s first foray into the world of Fallout:
“I don’t have any doubts that on the whole, and I think this is a belief universally shared on the team that Fallout is a better game, but we’re also not oblivious to the fact that we have a lot of extra baggage that we’re carrying, being the guys picking up this franchise, that are re-imagining this series from 10 years ago, and there’s something that comes along with that. We’re very well aware of what we’re up against.
have no doubts in my mind that, at its core and for everything that it provides that Fallout [3]is a better game than Oblivion was- for sure.”
That is saying a lot considering the fact that Oblivion was given the illustrious title of Game of the Year, and is always referenced as one of the best RPG titles to have come out in ages for the PC and Xbox 360. As a matter of fact, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion were the main reasons I purchased the original Xbox and an Xbox 360 to begin with.
Fallout 3 is scheduled for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this autumn.

Oblivion sucked though so it doesn’t take much to make it better really ..
I think it’s good that they aren’t oblivious of Oblivion.
Oblivion got boring and repetitive too easily not to mention the engine itself wasn’t all that great resource wise. Which is why considering how the same team is working on Fallout 3 I am not gonna be one to fall for Mr Hines’s words. I’ll let the reviews and possible demo sway me.
I have to agree that Oblivion had some issues, so did Morrowind though and it has always been put high upon the pedestal of RPGS. Sure there were only maybe 3 voice actors tops (sans the awesome Patrick Stewart who did not have a large enough part) in Oblivion, there were a few glitches, it could be very choppy at times, and third person gameplay might as well have not even existed. However, Oblivion was still a highly addictive and very fun game imo – but it is ok if not everyone thinks so. I value everyone’s opinion – not as much as my own, but I still value it (j/k)
Games don’t have to be good to sell well, they just have to be addictive and fun, even if we get bored of them the masses full of 13 yr. old ADD children will still play the game, which explains Halo 3.
Well I did like Oblivion it’s just the issues I mentioned made me uninstall it. Maybe someday I will when Bethesda releases another OFFICIAL patch. I would of used the community made one however I tend to be wary of such mods because they can conflict with other mods and cause probable unneeded issues. Also Oblivion was in a way higher quality than Morrowind which aside from not having a upfront and noticeable main story line crashed a lot. Gotta admit becoming a member of the 9 rocked. That end quest armor was sweet. I tried to play Shivering however it didn’t quite have the pulling power as Knights of the Nine did. Although that Scottish brogue…Oh god! That was some funny stuff they wrote.
