An open beta test for Saga the new MMORTS from Silverlode Interactive and Wahoo Studios, will begin on July 5 allowing players to experience this fantasy game before it goes online in the Fall. Based in a world designed by the lead programmer of “Starcraft: Brood War”, Saga puts players in the role of “ruler†as they create a fantasy empire by conquering new lands, building up their kingdoms and cities, repressing the peasants, and fight off a persistent foe in a world that continues to thrive even when the player signs off for the night. This is a free to play online game, where players pay as much or as little as they decide, and features a collectible system that allows the gamer to purchase “booster packs†that will enhance their armies with additional or rare soldiers possessing strange and powerful abilities. If the player wants, they can also use the collectible system to barter and trade units and resources with other players in the game.
To prove oneself, the player must create and control a huge force of soldiers made up not only of humans, but dragons, elves, mechanical giants, orcs, and more. Not only must gamers lead this eclectic army into battle, but also they must use all of their strategic cunning to overcome the enemy. With the help of allies, some sleuth, a little espionage, and assassins, gamers will eventually be experienced enough to gain valuable resources and expand upon their troops.
