Beowulf – Newest Trailer Leaves Too Much to the Imagination

With game trailers, you never know what you are going to get. Some of them are at the very top of the awesome scale, while other fall off and shatter like a ton of garbage. This newest trailer from Ubisoft, showing small clips of their newest title Beowulf, seems to hit at the lowest point of the middle. It is not the worst trailer I have ever seen, and it is, by far, not even close to the best. Combining what looks to be snippets from the soon to be released motion picture along with gameplay footage, this trailer is just more confusing than anything. Showing a woman’s abdomen dripping with what appears to be gold is a bit of a head-scratcher. I know that Angelina Jolie plays Grendel’s mother in the movie, and she sets out to seduce our hero Beowulf, but what the shot of a stomach (that I assume is hers) has to do with the game is just a bit of a “what the hell?” move on Ubisoft’s part. If they are trying to keep us guessing as to the plot, that is fine, but they could have gone about it in a different way. Instead it looks like they just threw a smorgasbord of clips into a bag, shook it up a bit and threw it out there in an attempt to keep interest sparked. This is a regrettable move in my opinion, and hopefully, like me, you will try to purge his trailer from your mind after watching it. I am looking forward to playing Beowulf when it comes out, so I hope they go back to producing decent trailers like the previous installments or just quit while they are ahead. But hey…. at least they sent us one with sound this time!
