Beowulf ‘Monsters Within’ Trailer and Achievement Announcements

 

Earlier today, I was watching the latest video for Beowulf called “Montsers Within”, and it made me realize something – the game is going to be so much better than the cheesy 3D movie. Granted, the more that Ubisoft has shown us of the game, the more trepid I have become, but regardless of whether the game is a steaming pile of elephant dung or not, it will be better than the movie. Of course, I could be wrong – but from what I have seen during the previews during every single commercial break on every cable channel I watch – the special effects in the movie hearken me back to a movie from the 80’s called “Clash of the Titans”. Plastic, fake, and oh so Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Ok, back to the trailer. From giant sea serpents, to wicked trolls to the infamous Grendel himself, the new trailer gives you more monster goodness then you can shake a severed arm at. Yes, there are tons of monsters in this game, and it looks like some of them are just a bit too big for Beowulf to subdue all by his lonesome – but this is where having a horde of warriors at your beck and call will come in handy. A couple of female monsters latch on to our Nordic hero at one point in the trailer, and while it looks like they are just feeling a bit randy – they are more than likely trying to suck the life force from him. Apparently not in the mood for some free lovin’, Beowulf slings the golden female beasts from him and kills them before they can jump back up and try again. Reminds me of something my ex-boyfriend once said, well.. never mind, this is not the appropriate venue for sharing a pseudo-intellectual’s attempt at humor that is nothing more than verbal pestilence.

With the new trailer, Ubisoft has also announced the Xbox 360 achievements that you can unlock during gameplay. So, for all of the gamers out there who are obsessed with jacking up their gamer scores, you will find the list of achievements more interesting than most. The game is rated “M” and we must comply with regulations and force you through an age gate, or else we will face the wrath of the ESRB – and trust me, the last thing we want to do is piss them off. Beowulf is in stores now for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 – the PSP version will arrive on December 4th.
