hitmanmovie2 Bad Hitman Movie! No Cookie!

The new movie, Hitman, based on the game series and starring Timothy Olyphant, hit theaters today after much anticipation. So how is it doing? According to the critics, not well. Currently, it’s only garnered a 13% positive review score on Rotten Tomatoes, and one of the six positive reviews is actually for the movie, Enchanted. So if you throw that one out, that takes it down to 11%. As a fan of the games, I find that pretty disheartening. On the plus side, this does make for some hilarious reviews. Here’s one of my favorite quotes from one by Peter Sobczynski of EFilmCritic.com:

“You know how people will sometimes describe a bad action movie as being like watching someone else play a video game? This one is so uninvolving that watching it is more like listening to someone reading out loud from the game’s instruction manual.”

Ouch. Guess that’s another video game movie down the toilet. We’ll have to see how it does at the box office though.

  1. DAMMIT………

I’ve lost all faith in Hollywood, at least the little I had left…..

  2. Fromps says:

Uwe Boll is gonna make more and more. We’ll have to deal with it, games to movies is like a 99.9% chance of being FAIL.

  3. somewhat says:

you had faith in Hollywood to begin with ?

  4. Makes it worse, now they will use this as an example on why video games are bad.And it being a crappy movie (never trust critics because they have been wrong before and can be wrong again) they will be more likely not to be on the side of video games. If it was atleast a good movie than people would assoiciate it with something good.I guess the only thing if it is bad enough people won’t even bother paying attention to it lol.

  5. Steve says:

I went to the movie with my friend - both of us which love the Hitman series - and we weren’t disappointed at all. We both said “It could have been better,” but we’re also both glad it didn’t just regurgitate the stories of the games back at us.

Yes, Agent 47 had a LOT more personality in the movie than in the games, but you know what? I liked that! I sit and think back to how 47 talks in the games, and if he was like that in the movie it would be boring as fuck. The one thing they managed to get right is NOT having sex with that beautiful russian hooker - that might have spoiled the movie a bit more for me.

Even if it’s getting horrible reviews, if I get the chance I will definitely buy this one on DVD, regardless of how it’s rated.

Remember: The word ‘critic’ comes from one who is good at being ‘critical.’

Apparenly, bad reviews… dont care goin 2 see it 2morrow and I will probably like it anyway so I’ll com back and let u kno….

    >Remember: The word ‘critic’ comes from one who is good at being ‘critical.’

Actually, yes and no. Comes from the Greek and Latin criticus and kritiko. Critical actually meant reviewing things as good and bad, back in ye olde days.

Uwe Bowle made this? Well thats all I needed to know… If there ever was a person that needed to just go away its Uwe

i got a kick when i saw that vin diesel was the executive producer

  10. Petrov says:

Ironicly this movie wasn’t even done by Uwe Boll. It was done by the French director Xavier Gens. On Gametrailers.com, Uwe Boll said a recent interview that if he had directed it, he would have picked Jason Statham has Codename 47. Regardless of his previous movie history I think that would have been better than Timmy Olyphant.

  11. Valnar says:

Wrong, wrong, wrong. The movie has a dumb Hollywood plot, but so do most action films, it’s not what you’re there for. You’re there for a fun film with some great action sequences and fast pacing. IT has all that, and Olyphant is a completely believable 47. It’s the finest video game film yet, in fact. Believe it or not, the critics are not always right.

  12. ITman says:

I’m grateful whoever did this movie, even if it sucks in the end.

Better that somebody at least tried to make a movie about that great game franchise than not.

  13. Kurbster says:

while we’re on the topic of Uwe Boll….enjoy his future movies: “Far Cry” and a sequel to “Alone in the Dark”

but seriously….I can’t remember the last good video game movie….DOA was terrible, Silent Hill was OK, Doom was OK. If anything, I thought the original Mortal Kombat was the best of any video game movie

  14. Silencer says:

Ever heard of Final Fantasy:Advent Children? That’s pretty much my favorite game movie right there. The only bad part to it is that you need to have played the game to know who the people are and stuff.

And if…when they make the “rumored” Halo movie, I’m going to see it, and if it sucks, I’ll be mad.

  15. Steve says:

This is one of those times where I hate being right.

  16. Silus says:

Lately, movies are being made just to see how much $$$ they can milk out of us, this is just another example. There are few and I mean FEW movies that you gotta see on the big screen.
Sadly, this year, the rehashing of old scripts, constant sequels and substandard writing has produced a lot of 2* movies. How I long for the old days of Hollywood, when writing a good script meant staying afloat and writing crap meant bankruptcy. Seriously, is Hollywood even trying anymore? I am not bad-mouthing Hitman, it was okay. I am, however, bad-mouthing all of Hollywood for its dollar-hungry approach to movie-making, where profits are foremost, promoting a movie even if it sucks– second…and last on that list: Quality of script.

Pshtttt! are you kidding me? I thought I was going to be so dissapointed that timothy olyphant was playing this part because of his not so amazing roles in other movies. THANK GOD I WAS WRONG. Im a big “critic” about movies and there is hardly ever one Ill go back and see again. But I would see Hitman again. I love the fact that he didnt have sex with the chick, though seeing her naked was great. And I love the fact that he actually HAD a personality. I too also thought that Jason Statham should have played Agent 47, but Im actually really happy Timothy Olyphant portrayed 47. Cause he did an amazing job. Everything fell into place really well in the movie. And it wasnt too over the top with CGI or choreography.

Great Job. I fell in love with the character. And with my Russian roots.

  18. Norbit says:

I thought Timothy Olyphant was pretty good in the film but everything else was piss poor. I would say the 2 best action films this year were The Bourne Supremacy and Die Hard 4. In the action genre they would get a 10 while imo this gets a 5 putting it in the same bracket as xXx.

Hi people! I applied for credit cards for so many times. This is perhaps my last chance. Yesterday I found credit card applications at a website. Is it good to improve credit? Please consult. It’s called

    low balnce transfer cards

  20. Mal says:

Anyone who under-rates this movie is either blind, or just really horrible at judging quality. I’m deep into movies and I judge strictly on quality and storyline. Piss poor? That’s a piss poor judgement.

I was greatly impressed by how this movie played out. All aspects were perfectly in place and I couldn’t have offered much more in opinion. I think it was well written and well acted and the action was (IMO) alot more vibrant that “Bourne”. DH4 was hard to top, as it was “all” action. But come on people this was an awesome movie. I’d recommend it to others and see it a few more times in Theatre.

Yep, awesome movie. Please make a sequel.

  21. Alex says:

I saw the movie and thought it was pretty good. But I’m like 14 so all movies with guns, shooting, and nude girls are good. But the actor who played Agent 47 was good in my perspective. I, being an actor myself, thought that he did well in portaying his character.
