The latest article up for Gamasutra’s A History of Gaming Platforms series takes a look at the Atari 2600 Video Computer System (VCS). The 2600 is probably the most revered of the 8-bit gaming platforms designed and is one of the cultural icons of the 80s. A lot of gamers probably are at least casually familiar with the 2600 even if they weren’t alive at the time. The system was a double edged sword causing a boom in growth of gaming that led to the 1984 near bust of the gaming industry.
