TechARP needs to get with the times. Benchmarking an HD4870 against a 9800GTX+ is rather lame at this point. Especially since the 9000 series was nothing but a die shrink of the 8000 series, which we all know is a 2 year old design.

Nvidia already dropped the price of the GTX260 to match the HD4870 some time ago. In fact, if you look hard enough, you can find a factory overclocked GTX 260 with quite a significant bump at a reasonable price. And they aren't running 90C either.

I can understand ATI/AMD fanatics/zealots being ecstatic over ATI/AMD catching up in the GPU arena, but geez, it's getting to the point of annoyance with the overdone "ZOMG, Nvidia got pwned!" remarks. Nobody's spanking anyone. If you require a reference of what a spanking is, go back 2 years ago and look at the first 8800 reviews. Heck, this current crop of GPU drama isn't even as exciting as the Voodoo 5 vs. Geforce 2 battle earlier this decade.

In all seriousness, either way you go today, you can't lose. The HD4850 will give a person a consistent 60 FPS in -most- games without breaking the bank. And if you can afford a nice 24 or 30 inch display, the flagship cards are probably in your range as well. Quite frankly, I'm still amazed how well an 8800 still holds up today on a 22" monitor given its age.

Yeah there will definitely be a price drop on Nvidia's part. Its nice to have real competition between them again for the first time in a few years.

@ xx-Thor-xx

The new HD4870X2 2GB DDR5 has just been released and is now the best card on the market so Ati now has the mid range and high end.

hmm so because ATi is winning the upper mid range battle they are on top? they win the price>performance battle all the time anyways this is nothing new.. but Nvidia still has a stranglehold on the very top end of gpu's with its gtx280.
